“There are no mistakes, only happy little accidents” said Bob to the tree. The tree was feeling down about the lopsided, imperfect branches Bob had just painted on them. “Look Bob, I am a tree. I need to be perfect – balanced and mature.” Bob put down his brush and took a sip of his beer, perplexed by the tree’s request. “When you make me, you need to pay extra attention to details. Sure, I look simple and effortless, but I am not some fluxious everchanging mass of atmospheric water particles that you get to paint over and over again. I’m a tree, you get one fucking chance to paint me and that’s it,” the tree explained. Bob took another sip, added a new arsenal of ingredients, and tinkered away at the tree for 8 weeks until it became a black lager that was brewed with a blend of German base malts, a touch of dark crystal, a splash of Carafa Type III and hopped with Magnum and Tettnang.

Dark brown, bright, med head, very toasty aroma, some sweetness, somewhat dry finish. It’s okay, that basic uncomplex dry black lager thing.

On tap at Cloudburst on Shilshole, pours a dark amber brown with a small beige head. Aroma has toasted malt, earthy malt, and some muddled notes. Flavour is dry, with earthy malt and toasted notes. Clean but not much going on here. It’s alright.

On tap at Cloudburst - Shilshole. Pours dark brown with an off-white head. Nutty roasted malts on the nose. Flavour is similar, roasted malts, nice nuttiness, some dry grass. Solid.

16oz pour at the brewery on 10th August 2025. Black with a small beige topping of foam. Nice depth of malts giving a pleasant chocolate and dark fruit flavour, light hop action for a semblance of balance; liked it.

Cloudburst is 2 for 2 in brewing a solid Bob Ross beer. Draft 10 oz pour at Cloudburst. Dark brown pour, cola like. Toasty aroma. Flavor is cool, and refreshing for the style. Clean. Toasty malt, slightly sweet caramel. A nutty malt profile that's difficult to describe, but easy to enjoy. Almond almost? Flavorful, and easy drinking Schwarz here. Very good.
