17th Oct 2014, third of a pint in my local Wetherspoons. Really enjoyed this: ruby red hue to the dark body, the tanned head producing some good lacing. Rich and fulsome in flavour, chocolate and mild liquorice hints. Hops hidden, the malts giving the beer it’s bitterness. Only had six of this Winters Wetherspoons Beer Festival brews, but this is by far the best so far.

Cask at George, Croydon. It pours darkest brown with a small tan head. The nose is soft, roasty, earth, spice, cocoa and rocky road. The taste is smooth, toasty, coffee grounds, plum, raisin, treacle, rocky road, light umami and toasted sesame to with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Works rather well. Probably one of Bateman’s best.

Cask @ Turls Green, Bradford. Very dark with a small creamy off-white head. Fairly smooth with a hint of chocolate malt and more sweet, rich aroma. The hop is superb.
