Our cherry stout is dark and rich with a fine mix of chocolate, roast and black malts. The flavour is enriched by a delicate balance of both sweet and sour cherries,. The use of oatmeal aids the velvet-like texture of this stout.

Malt: Chocolate, Caramalt, Crystal Malt, Oats and Roasted Barley

Cask at gbbf 2015 day 4. Opaque black coloured pour with a steadfast light tan head. Aroma is nice milk choc, earthy, nutty roasted malts. Flavour is slightly thin, smooth oats, choc, berry, not much cherry. Lingering woody tannin in the finish. Palate is a bit thin, lowish carbonation.

Cherry stouts were not uncommon in the old days, this is my first so curious to taste this. Deep beige, creamy, lacing head over an almost black beer. Aroma of coffee grounds, cherries and other stonefruit but not dominating, white pepper, some iron, dried leaves, tea. Nutty taste in which the cherries add a very subtle sweetness - but nothing in the neighborhood of sour cherry beers; bit metallic, bit thin, gentle roasted bitterness in the end, very lightly sourish, bitterness of medium duration. Less rich than expected.

Cask at GBBF 2015. It pours near black with a decent beige head. The nose is rich, oily, roasted malt, ripe cherry, fruit pie, light alcohol and toast. The taste is smooth, toasty, oily, cherry pie, toasty, earthy, fruit cake, bakewell tart and smooth roast with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Well - rounded and easy going.

500ml bottle from a Booths Supermarket (Knutsford): this is the first of three beers I picked up from this brewery in Booths that day. Poured into an Abbot Ale badged glass tankard at home on 21st Dec 2014. Deep, dark brown with red hue to the edges, on top a full tanned bubbling head. Chocolate malty nose and taste with mild cherry hints if you sniff and scratch carefully. Rich body feel, smooth and creamy almost in texture

Cask at CBC Clerkenwell - London. Pours dark brown with a foamy white head. Some good roast in here, dark berries, dry chocolate, moderate bitterness. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly drying to finish, more cocoa, berries, mild vinous qualities. Nice beer.

On keg @ the Stockbridge Tap. Appearance - opaque black with a decent creamy head. Nose - on keg, this comes out a little cold so warming it up was necessary to get the chocolate notes which are big. The cherry is a bit elusive though. Taste - loads of creamy chocolate and the cherry is there if you look for it. Palate - medium bodied with a texture that is not as creamy as I would expect for a stout but the finish is balanced. Overall - enjoyable but would it have been better on cask and at cask temperature?
