Wooden cask at the 31st Ealing Beer Festival, Walpole Park, 15/07/22. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a good sized beige covering. Nose is earthy roasted tones, dark malts, light charr, cocoa powder. Taste comprises dark fruit rinds, oaked effect, toffee, baking powder, brown bread, earthy. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying close. Solid enough brown ... worked better in the wood than the bitter.

Cask (wooden) gravity at XT Brewery, Thursday 3rd March 2016 Dark brown beer, but crikey this smells really woody, wet wood, wow really fresh wood not your usual barrel aged claptrap either, just full on fresh wet wood shavings. This is very soft in the mouth, but wow it is so woody, tangy, fruity but softened hugely by the wooden cask, like sucking a pencil but a beery pencil (not selling it am I) A8 A4 T7 P3 Ov15 3.7

Wooden Cask. Clear deep red beer. Bubbly pale tan head. Palate is light and semi dry. It’s also lightly crisp from the fine carbonation. Good tangy fruits - cherry and dark fruits, blackcurrant just about identifiable. Very light touch of dark malts. Dry crispy finish. Tasty and somewhat off the beaten track.

[Cask at Reading Beer Festival] I’ve got a fence all around my garden. Nothing special mid; just cheap sawn wood in a lattice with several coats of creosote, and a few splats of earth from careless gardening. But for all it’s cheapness, I’m still upset that XT have stolen it and ground it up to make this dark brown beer with a beige head. Sure, they’ve tried to disguise it with a splash of red wine, a little chocolate and some vanilla, but there’s no doubt that the woody taste dominating the beer is my fence. Now I’m going to have to spend the bank holiday weekend building a new one. I’m not happy.
