Mermaid May Day Weekend Beer Festival 2016, St Albans. Clear copper-red in colour. Has an extremely light roasted malt, fused with some nut notes, which are most prominent in its nose.

Cask (handpump) @ GBBF 2014, Great British Beer Festival, London Olympia, Hammersmith Road, London, England W14 8UX. [ As Mersea Island Mud ].Clear dark red brown color with a small to average, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, sharp, grass - leather. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average duration, roasted, thin. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20140813]

Draft at the Great British Beer Festival 2014, Day 3 - London. Pours clear amber with a frothy, yellow-beige head. Nice rounded brown bread character, some tangy dark fruits, dirt. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Gritty earth on the finish with undertones of dry chocolate. Fair.

From cask. Pours dark brown to black with a small off white head. Aroma is toasted malty and light roasted malty. Sweet malty, caramelish, bitter and toasted. Nutty and caramelish, toasted finish.

Cask @ GBBF 2014. Pours a dark amber brown color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty caramel aroma. Roasted malty chocolate flavor with hints of caramel. Has a roasted malty caramel and chocolate finish.

Sampled @ GBBF day 2. Dark amber to red brown color, small off-white head. Smell and taste malts, a bit medicinal (only in the aroma) slightly leaves, slightly metallic, lightly bitter. Interesting, things I like about it and thing I don’t like about it.

Cask - Dark sugars and toffee. Clear dark amber. Toast, toffee and some burnt notes. Interesting and light.

Cask at a food festival at the brewery. Deep brown with a thick beige head. Roasty notes up front then some sourness and smoke. And, don’t know if it was auto-suggestion or what, but definitely some mud. Very thin, watery mud though. Grew on me as the smoke came through more, but definitely not my favourite mild.

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Clear dark red beer. Small bubbly tan head. Palate is light and dry with modest fine carbonation. Dry malt, some dark character. Subtle but bitter toffee. Pinch of dry spice. Little dark fruit. Dry finish. Okay if a bit dry.
