Bottle @ weekly tasting shared by Joes. Dark brown to black color, huge off-white to beige head. Smell and taste malts, lightly roast, some hops. Quite nice, but I don’t get anything "saison-ish" in this beer. It’s nice though.

Bottle at from Jacks, Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon. Consumed at Bridge Villa Campsite, Wallingford, Oxon, Saturday 25th October 2014. My first thought was that there is a slight unwavering sour/vinegar aroma, it diminishes after a while but I can still get it 20 mins after opening, interestingly Loz cannot pick this up. Roasty and with a fruity tang a little ashiness and a slow, steady road to dryness. It’s fine but I do feel it’s tarnished by this sour nose. Btw colour is dk brown/black A4 A4 T7 P3 Ov11 2.9

Bottle on the IOW Jolly Day outward train tasting, thanks to Soapy, 24/08/14. Dark mahogany brown with a big old khaki head that retains. Nose is woody, light roasted notes, nutty, toffee, straw, dark berry notes. Taste comprises toffee, light cocoa, biscuit, red berry tang. Medium bodied, fine caronation, semi drying close. Decent enough dark saison.

Bottle - Flowery hops and some roast.  Jet black with a rich brown head.  Lots of roast, flowery hops and some grassy bitterness.  Odd but strangely appealing.

Half pint poured from keg at The Queens Head, Kings Cross. Patchy tan-coloured head to a jet black body. Aroma of liquorice and dark fruits, nicely roasted. Smoked dark malty taste, notes of coffee and liquorice offset by dark fruity bitterness to the finish. Smooth on the swallow. A likable, fine bodied season ale (London 12.07.2014).

Black beer with a thick foamy head. Earthy toasted malt smell. Flavour has an initial sour, tangy fruit hit. It mellows into a charcoal-y, malt flavour with a smoky chocolate backtaste.

Keg at Ushers of Edinburgh. The nose is earthy, roasty, treacle, plum and permanent marker. The taste is bitter, earth, roasty, coffee, ash, dried fruit and pepper with a bitter, roasty finish. Medium body body and fine, prickly carbonation. Pretty tasty, but not much depth.

6th July 2014
Opaque black - brown beer, big fluffy yellow pale tan head. Palate is airy and little crisp. Light floral yeast. Whispers of smoke and coffee. Mildly tangy fruits, well buried. Very mild spice. Airy dry finish. Okay.
