Brattleboro Food Coop: Pours pretty much black with a beige head. Aroma is pretty light with some chocolate and pine. Taste is malty, hoppy with a nice spicy touch. Some chocolate aftertaste. Not brutal like many a black ipa. Not bad. might be a bit underwhelming.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Leighton. Opaque black - brown beer. Big pale tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry, good fine carbonation. Tangy minerally thin dark malts. The tang develops a weird skewed sourness. Mild piney hops. Dry finish. Dominant character is this odd and unpleasant tang. Do trust me - this isn’t a good one.

Bottle split at Bruce’s Pad, thanks to Leighton, 04/11/14. Light black with a decent tan covering that retains well. Nose is earthy hop, fish tank notes, light roast, bitter cocoa, pine, nutty. Taste comprises charred wood, bitter roast, tropical fruit rinds, pine, earthy feel. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with some earthy hop bitterness. Adequate CDA if a little overly dirty at times.

Bottle shared in London - picked up in the US. Pours clear, dark brown with a frothy tan head. The nose has light roast, some orange rind, toasted grains. Light-medium sweet flavor with some more toasted grains, earth, faint cocoa, understated dried citrus. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Nicely balanced to finish, more rind, charred grain, some husks, earth, faint alcohol, cocoa. Pretty decent, if basic.

I heard that the brewer of this beer used to steal Kenny’s milk money.

Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours dark ruby-brown with a small tan head. The nose is piney, varnish, dark fruits, light roast, sherbet, candy and citrus. The taste is bitter, roasty, ashy, mild astringency, earthy, grapefruit peel, pine and light cardboard with a very drying finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Fairly average, but not bad. Don’t trust Kenny.
