RBESG pt 18. Moncada. Grand tasting. Hazy deep amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and semi dry. Fine carbonation. Bitter wood and bourbon. Alcohol spice and heat. Brandy laced caramel. Dry hot finish. Clunky.

Bottle thanks to Leighton at RBESG 2014 Grand Tasting. It pours deep mahogany brown with minimal head. The nose is vanilla, toasted coconut, woody, booze, oxidised edge, old toffee and fruit cake. The taste is big, boozy, bourrrrbon, hot spicy alcohol, toffee, wood, raisin and tangy dried fruits with a lingering hot finish. Full body, fine carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. Damn that is hot. Big on the bourbon front. Probably too much.

Bottle during RBESG; reddy brown pour very little head just a thin bubbly dark beige, quite a boozy bourbon aroma, tasted very sweet with big booze, caramel and a hint of dark fruit. Cool label though. --- Beer merged from original tick of Bourbon Barrel ½ Sharkalligator ½ Man on 09 Aug 2014 at 18:22 - Score: 8

Bottle - Boozy bourbon and dark sugar sweetness. Muddy brown with a beige head. Dark caramel and chocolate and a bit of booze. Although the nose was a bit harsh, the taste was better balanced.

Bottle grand tasting RBESG14. Sweet funky aroma. Bourbon. Odd in mouth. Hot. Bit all over the place. Not a good beer. Sweet bourbon. No real beer taste.

Sampled at RBSG. From notes. Caramel and toffee with a good dose of roasty malt and bourbon soaked oak. A little vanilla in there too. Very good. I was not expecting it to taste like this at all.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy brown with medium beige head that lasts awhile leavig spotty lacing. The aroma is brown sugar spice and booze. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet malt, oak, and light spice in the finish. Very good.

Approximately 4 ounce sample at the Jackie O’s Public House in Athens, Ohio. The pour is a deep hazed brown copper with an off white head. The aroma is bourbon right off, maybe some malty sweet behind that, but mostly its about the booze. The taste is more or less a shot of bourbon, there is a hint of caramel nut malt under that, but really this is about the whisky. The palate is medium bodied, low carbonation, oily mouth feel, and big alcohol burn. Unpopular opinion alert - I love beer, I love bourbon, I do not love overly bourbon beers. Still, this was well executed, just not my thing.
