Cask at BrewWharf. It pours nears black with a small beige head. The nose is roasty, pine, earth, ash, toast, chocolate, spice, light caramel and a touch of smoke. The taste is rich, roasty, high bitterness, resin, pine, ash, charred toast, coffee, light acidity, spice and liquorice with a bitter-roasted finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Pretty punchy. A big, bold breakfast stout.

Cask handpull at The Brew Wharf Borough Market. Black beer lasting tan head. Now that is quite an aggressive beer. Big in flavour. I mean Ang threw the kitchen sink at this. It’s an acquired taste. Some chocolate coffee molasses liquorice. It’s definitely arresting. Wow. Not sure I will ever have a beer like this again. Extreme in flavour. But I won’t forget it. Oh and did I need to and that the conditioning was poor.

11th February 2014Cask at the (dying).brewpub. Opaque dark brown beer, residual pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Superfine minerally carbonation. Thin but robust tasting dark malts. Little roast bitterness. Distinct fruity tang here, possibly the Chinook and Columbus hops. Light citrus and dark chocolate. Finishes smooth. Not bad at all.

Cask at Brew Wharf, 07/02/14. Pitch black with a dirty tan head that clears to the edge. Nose carries a good coffee hit, roast malt, hoppy underpin, earthy resonance, dark chocolate shavings. Taste comprises bitter roasty tones, espresso, dark chocolate, hoppy bite, light vanilla. Medium bodied, a little flat - condition not too hot, semi drying finale laced with coffee. A solid coffee porter, gives out a lot of flavour for the ABV. Nice work Ang.

Cask at Brew Wharf - Borough Market, London. Pours rich brown with a foamy beige topping. The aroma has well roasted malts, cocoa and burnt grass. Light sweet flavor with heavily roasted malt character, bittersweet baking cocoa, lots of earth, some gritty burnt grass, charred steak, ashy wood. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. More of the same to finish, like well-torched wood, bitter charred grass, scorched earth, bitter dark chocolate, espresso. Quite rich for the ABV. A porter with cajones, this is.
