Tasting at Bruce’s Pad. Thanks to Paul. Almost opaque dark brown beer. Small bubbly tan head. Palate is light and crispy. Somewhat bitter piney hops reign over mellow dark malt. Touch of dark chocolate. Marmalde hop kicks in. Light dry finish. Good strong black ipa

Bottle picked up at Independent Spirit, Bath. It pours deep brown with a medium, bubbly beige head. The nose has a big pine needle character, as well as roasted malt, varnish and soap. The taste is roasted malt, toast, earth, cocoa, blackcurrant, pine needles, earth and a good deal of bitterness with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Its all about the pine needles! No great depth, but makes for a solid Black IPA.

Bottle shared at my 5K tasting at Bruce’s pad, thanks to Paulo - the CDA finder general, 13/11/13. Dark mahogony brown with a decent light tan covering that dissipates to pondwork. Nose is earthy hops, pine, dank notes, bitter grapefruit, light cocoa. Taste comprises dank hops, earthy cocoa, jammy berry fruit, grapefruit, dark malts. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry finish with light roasty toasties and a lick of hop bitterness. Solid enough CDA in a middle draw stylee.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London - thanks to Paul for this whale. Pours dark brown with a frothy flesh tone head. Nose has toasted herbs, some pine, soft roast. Light sweet flavor with notes of chocolate, subtle roast, light bitter citrus rind, mild tangy dark malts. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Light sweet finish, a bit of toasty pine, mild earth, some dusty cocoa. So so.

Bottle at the Bag O’Nails, Bristol. Almost black in colour with a slight, off-white head. Tangerines, grapefruit and pine resin aroma, with some dense, plain chocolate. Flavour had plenty more fruit, some very solid malts with a prominent roasty edge, and a touch of chocolatey sweetness, before a dryish finish. An excellent take on the black IPA.
