Draft. A black beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, and a bit of chili. The flavor is sweet with strlong notes of roasted malt, combined with medium notes of chcolate, and hints of chilis, leading to a very dry and roasted finish. Over the top for me.

Old Fountain. Keg. Opaque black beer with a small pale tan head. Smooth dark malt, a little cream. Mild minerally carbonation. Mellow dark chocolate. Mellow chilli heat. Touch of dark fruits and orangey hop. Crisp finish.

Cask at the Old Coffee House, 25/10/13. Mid black with a tan covering that retains well. Nose is light roast, cocoa, good hop presence, berry fruits, earthy notes, mineral tones, light spiceage. Tate comprises liqourice, roast malts, dark chocolate, berry fruits, chalky mineral bite, liqourice, touch of chilli. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, a little thin and watery for 6.5%, decent chilli burn in the finish but well balanced and not blow your head off stuff. Decent chilli stout, quite a good hop presence which helps tone down the heat, let down a few notches for me by being a little too thin.

Cask at the Old Coffee House - London. Pours deep brown with a bubbly tan head. The nos has suggestions of dried out milk chocolate and chili peppers. Light to medium aweet flavor with decent chili spice, some burnt toast, mellow cocoa, light earthy bitterness. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Good condition, really. Good peppery heat to finish, restrained roasted malts, some cocoa, light toast, some dry minerals, red pepper, slightly chalky cocoa. Good pepper spice balance for sure. Quite drinkable.

Cask at the Old Coffee House. It pours near black with a thick beige head. The nose is roasty, milk chocolate, chocolate cake, coffee, mild acidity, caramel and light spice. The taste is rich roast, toast, chocolate, earth, coffee grinds, warming chilli spice and mild acidity with a dry, spicy finish. Medium+ body, fine carbonation and velvety mouth-feel. Good body and brilliant balance. The chilli warmth is there, but never dominates. Utterly drinkable. One of Brodies best.
