Pours cloudy black with a lasting, small, foamy, beige head. Aroma of tobacco, toast, fondant, fig, black olive, charcoal, smoked ham. Taste is light malty sweet, restrained chocolate paired with fruity notes of fig & raisin, built on a solid smoky-umami base of olive, tobacco & somewhat salty licorice. Powdery effect in the back. Bitter edges of herbs & toast lead the way to a dryish, herbal hoppy finish with lingering smoke, toast & touch of coffee. Medium body, slick-creamy texture, soft carbonation. Nicely balanced Smoked, a bit Porter-y too.

Bottle at home, my girlfriend picked this one out; good choice! Pours black with lots of initial head. Aroma is smokey and dark, spices and clean dark malts. Smells a lot like a smokey Baltic porter. Big body. Flavour is sweet, with molasses, burnt caramel, biscuits. Smokey but not overboard, perfectly right for a smoked porter. I really get a lot of biscuit from this. Finish is sweet, somewhat bitter, with notes of coffee. Lovely smoked porter which I'll be having again.

Bottle courtesy of Mallorn via the RB Euro Swap. Moderate sized, foamy beige head over an almost black body. Aroma of smoke and ashes, chocolate, and potting soil. Taste is bittersweet with the smoke and strong roasted bitterness balanced quite nicely by caramel and marshmallow sweetness. The latter picks up at the end and carries the finish. Medium body—quite oily. Very pleasant sipping.

Draft @ BBP.

Huge foxy cream head, bit irregular, over virtually black beer. Smoked ham, phenolic², sweetened tarr, freshly laid tarmac. Smoked, phenolic but thankfully a little less intense than the nose suggested. Good sweet malt underbuild. Good carbonation, quite slick, bit sticky and some alcoholwarmth. The nose might come as a shock to the unaware, but I liked it!

Bottle @ home. Opaque black color, full sized off-white to beige head that lasts for a short while and leaves fair lacing. Smell and taste malts, smoky, light sweet hints but also smoky malt bitterness. It's got a lot, and it's all balanced. Quite well done, well brewed.

My rating of Smokey The Barracuda was probably for the original as well, as it had just been released back then, but oh well, a tick is a tick. Black color. Short beige head. Aroma's: smoked, smoked/smoking wood, red fruit, light sweet. Retronasal it's sweetish, smokey, aniseed, licorice, droppig. Flavor is moderate sweet with light fruity sourness. Medium bodied. Finishes smokey, moderate bitter.
