Had this one quite recently.. It’s a nice and fresh beer. The bottle is also quite nice. If you can get this one: try it.

0.5l bottle. Pours a dark brown unclear body with a nice red hue and a creamy, lasting fingersized beige head. Some sour aromas, sour berries perhaps, definitely some junipers in there along with some chocolate hints, some spiciness and herbs, vague notes of asparagus and perhaps a bit soapy. Nice nose. Good lively carbonation and medium bodied. Tastes first quite stingy from some herbs - or is it junipers? and a decent amount of licorice. Tastes malty, quite different and original. Slightly dark-sweet and syrup-sticky with a strong bitter, grassy, dry and hoppy finish. Big, different and complex flavors but it works in some strange way.

Bottle, batch 300. This was a real, pleasant surprise. Pours black, with a good head, and an aroma worth dying for (which is quite fitting). There’s a lot going on here with a good roasted malt, coffee, oak, peat and seafront in general, and also a hint of licorice and some cherry to spice things up a bit. The taste lives up to the aroma, with a lot of burned malt and coffee, burned sugar and syrup, and a light smoky taste giving the beer a good and very fitting acidity. Good burned, acidic finish. Very close to a fantastic stout, but maybe a bit more light bodied and thinner, and a bit livelier carbonation. Still this makes it surprisingly easy to drink, despite it’s high complexity.

very dark brown, smooth light brown head. dusty caramelly aroma. dry caramel, faint brown-cookie spices. flavor is roasted grains, faint brown-cookie spices, faint licorice like flavor. Taste is sort of like a spiced porter, or a mix between a porter and a christmas brew. The bitterness is more spicy than hoppy. I poured only a small glass from the bottle. some more beer came out by itself after a while. beware.. Strange beer, traditional recipe acc. to bottle.

50cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Almost black colour, light beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, cocoa powder, chocolate, light sweet berries, spices. Flavour is sweet, malty, chocolate, coffee roast, berries, some spices, vanilla, light bitter roasted finish with caramel. Medium bodied. A bit too sweet to be really great imo, but very tasty.

Bottle, 7.5%. Papery aroma, hint of brown sugar. Cloudy red brown colour. Small light brown head. The flavour has a good Belgian yeast note. It is mildly roasted, has a little paper and baking yeast. Well-balanced.
