Medium rich and a gentle perfume nose. Light, peppery overture with a deep soft-spiced finish.
We love Belgian beer at TicketyBrew, so were desperate to open with a Belgian classic: the Dubbel. A staple of Trappist and Abbey ale producers, this beer has its own identity yet differs greatly between the Belgians. We’ve gone for the darker end of the spectrum with an extra-dark candi syrup and have gone very easy on the hops to let the yeast express itself. While it may look fairly imposing, we’re confident you’ll find it goes down pretty easily.

Nose, some bread, clove, slight sugar, herbal; not imposing enough for the style.Taste is similarly light, blackcurrant, light cola, some herbal notes in the light sweet finish. Mouthfeel is too thin . A very unimposing, and somewhat underwhelming dubbel. It’s a very hard style to get right, and this doesn’t.

Bottle. Chestnut-red with no head. It’s strength is evident but subdued somewhat by its sweetness which is evident in both aroma and taste - these are dark winter fruits. Medium bodied.

Bottle from Dram Shop, Sheffield. Hazy (tons of sediment in the bottle) dark, reddy brown. Halo and thin film of tan head. Aroma of bonfire toffee, dried vine fruits. A hint of blackcurrant. Taste is dark fruit sweet, followed by boozy fruit dry. Tart apple palate. Dry, light bitter finish.

Pours deep mahogany. Not as rich as a classic Dubbel, but still a great take on the style. Juicy plum, figs, hint of treacle. Good for one bottle.

Bottle shared with Ashton McCobb. pours dark brown with a good tan head. Aromas of caramel and nuts. Taste has more of the same, with darker sugars. Body is a bit too light, texture a bit too thin, finishes a bit too short. Not getting much Belgian yeast, but not a bad attempt at a Dubbel.

33cl bottle thanks to Allmyvinyl. Pours chestnut brown to black with a nicely proportion fawn head. The nose has nuts, tar, perhaps a hint of liquorice. The taste has toffee, nuts and a hint of liquorice again, in fact black jack sweets. The palate is a little thinner than expected from a Dubbel style. However, it’s very elegant from start to finish. Overall, a good beer.

Aroma: Dark malt, raisins, fig and caramel.
Appearance: Dark brown body with a thin beige head that quickly fades. Very few lacing marks.
Taste: Weak flavours of coffee, raisins, yeast and sugar. There’s a decent balance between sweet and bitter but this is really lacking in depth.
Palate: Thin body with a watery, slightly oily texture. Very soft carbonation.
Overall: An unimpressive Dubbel. My bottle was labelled 6.5% ABV.

330ml bottle - A deep brown body, the tan head went in seconds. which lets it down a bit somewhat. The nose is a bit more delicate than I expected, the notes of coffee, liquorice and chocolate are quite muted. The taste however is a different matter, a nice warming boozy richness in all the levels, the sweetness of the syrup carries through and leaves a lovely edge which makes you want to rush in to the next sip. Very good after a poor start,.
