Bottle. As Pinnekjøttøl Dunkles Weizen. It pours a clear, brown body under a finger-thick light beige head. Malty nose with some roasted hints. There’s a touch of bitterness in the flavor, balancing the maltyness. Some roasted notes here as well. Medium to full body and a nice carbonation level. Short finish. A pretty boring one, not much of a dunkles weizen, and not a beer I’d like with my pinnekjøtt dinner. 140207

500 ml bottle as Pinnekjøtt. Clear, dark amber body with a nice, dense beige head. Aroma has caramel malt and fruity chewing gum. Flavor is sweet, caramel malt, fruity, slightly roasted and banana/wheat yeast. Not much bitterness. Decent body and moderate in aftertaste. Decent beer but nothing outstanding.

500ml bottle as Pinnekjøttøl, 5.8 % abv, bought at Vinmonopolet Tromsdalen. Steady off-white head, leaving lacing rings down the glass. Clear mahogany coloured body. Smell of tobacco and spiced fruits. Flavours of raisin, caramel, and dough joined by yeasty fruitiness towards the ending. Soft in the mouth. Drinkable, however, not quite representative for the style, and not the best partner to the Christmas dish of lamb (Tromsø 25.12.2013).

24.12.2013, 0,5l bottle @ home:
Big slightly fizzy-creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet fruity, dark malts, yeast, burnt caramel, dark sugar, sour coffee, dough, grass, winegum crocodiles. Taste is slightly sweet, dark malts, wet hay, sour coffee, yeast, caramel, wheat, hints of almond essence and cardboard. Little bitterness, slightly watery mouthfeel. Fair enough.

Hoppy Joe fungerte mye bedre.

500 ml bottle, as Coisbo Pinnekjøttøl Dunkles Weizen, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 5.8%. Hazy dark brown colour, large off-white head. Nice malty aroma with some fresh brown bread and caramel, hints of banana but not cloves. Fizzy mouthfeel. Medium sweet flavour with brown bread and caramel, a hint of citrus, but hardly any banana nor cloves. Drinkable, but not true to style as a dunkelweizen. And regardless of the "true to style" idea: this, or any other dunkelweizen, would certainly not be my preferred beer to accompany "pinnekjøtt". More robust beers are required for that purpose.

Bottle at home. Pours a hazy brown colour with a big, creamy and beige head. Malty aroma with nuts, wood, chocolate, banana and caramel. The flavour is similar wih the addition of dried fruit and leather. Not as complex as the aroma. Slick mouth feel, and has a light bitterness. Nice aroma but the taste is a little light. An okay dunkelweizen.
