Single-hop. Perhaps you’ve heard this term being thrown around lately, maybe wondering what exactly people are talking about. The idea is to create a beer with only one variety of hops so you can fully appreciate its flavors and complexities. We decided to make NELSON THE IMPALER using only the exceedingly rare and delicious Nelson Sauvin hops, grown exclusively in Nelson, New Zealand. Why? Because we can. Very light in color due to the use of almost exclusively Pilsner malt, intense grapefruit and hints of pineapple and mango make it surprisingly big on flavor with a refreshing, dry finish.
Notes: Single-hop Nelson pale. Tropical and grapefruit notes with light malt character

8oz pour at Galaxy Hut pours a clear gold with some thin white head. Nose is vinous, white grape, straw, grass, orange, lemon, a hint of pepper. Flavor is solid, lemon, orange, pine, straw, some scape, zesty grapefruit, a bit of soap. Nice, refreshing, slightly astringent finish.

Bottle. Hazy gold with a modest white head. Aroma of grass, white grapes, gooseberries, grapefruit. Lowish carbonation. Tastes as it smells, fairly dry with pithy bitterness at the end. Quality pale malt is there somewhere under the hops. Refreshing, a mite austere.

Bottle from Brewcraft at home. Very hazy straw yellow pour with dense foamy white head. Smells Belgian-y with bright Nelson Sauvin hops - lemony and wine-like. Taste is exactly as the aroma - surprisingly fresh tasting. Clean finish with a bit of spicy Belgian flavor. Pleasantly surprising - easy-drinking but lots of flavor, even if Belgian yeastiness isn't my favorite flavor generally. Could get this again.

Very pale as the name insinuates. Much maltier than it is hoppy. Hazy white with good head and lacing. Some mash malt sourness in finish. Light bitterness. Light citrus. Ok. Tap at DC Beer festival.

Bottle from Bine & Vine. Pours hazy wit color with a slight white head. Light floral/fruit aroma. Med body. Flavor is lots of hop, largely citrus, over a light malt backbone (slightly roasty). It develops some significant grapefruit rind after a bit. Really quite an impact for such a low ABV. Would be good to have a few of these around.

Sampled at GBBF 2013, London - Day 2. Pours lightly hazy yellow with a fine, white cream head. Pithy citrus in the nose, lemon and mild grapefruit. Light sweet flavor, somewhat juicy but still has dried citrus and bitter fine. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Clean finish with more pithy citrus, some zesty lemon, more grapefruit. Nice beer.

Gravicask, 5.2 % avb, one-third pint, American Bar, GBBF 2013, second day. Pale golden body, spotty lacing to the glass. Grapefruit all over. Dry, fruit bitter ending. Fine bodied and smooth on the swallow. A real thirst quencher, indeed (London Olympia 14.08.2013).
