This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Georgy Zhukov, arguably one of the finest generals of World War II. Huge in body with strong flavors of espresso, chocolate and molasses, this unique iteration of Zhukov’s adds roasted hazelnuts and vanilla to impart even more complexity and depth of flavor to this massive, jet-black stout. In the immortal words of Marshal Zhukov himself, “Есть вещи в России, которые не являются, как они кажутся.”

Bomber @ Belgian Beer Geeks Autumn Gathering 2025. Pours pitch black, deep tan head. Lovely hazelnut shades joining forces with a coarse woodiness, liquorice hints, not much vanilla. Held up very well over the last 10 years.

Bouteille 66cl à Belgian Summer Beer Gathering, merci Bjorn.
Anno 2016?

Ultra thick black pour from bottle. Almost no head. Dark chocolate, malts, not much hazelnuts but damned good

650ml Bomber. Possibly the blackest, thickest pour, I’ve ever seen. Dark brown, sticky head. Loads of chocolate in the nose. Immense amounts of roast, and dark, bitter espresso, with a big dank dose of soy. The mouth feel is oily, and incredibly thick, and satisfying. The carb is incredibly soft, and silky. The finish is quite nutty, and he hazelnut comes through. Hints of sweet vanilla with some intense, strong roasty coffee, and roasted malt notes. High bitterness, cocoa, coffee, light nuttiness, hints of sweet vanilla. This is one intense, big beer.. Not for the faint of heart, not for a craft beer noob. Take your time, this one kicks back, wow.

Bottle shared with ShivanDragon. Big roasted malt aroma with tobacco, nuts, chocolate, and some vanilla. Nicely bittersweet flavour, roasty, lovely balance. Solid bitterness, bit chalky, body is full and thick. Quite amazing, right up my alley.

Bottled. Pitch black colour with a brown foamy head. Aroma is canilla, chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, some slight alcohol and mild spices. Flavour is chocolate, cacao, mild spicy, alcoholic and smoked wet wooden tones. Alcohol is rather warming, and the spicy edge hangs on to this making this one as bit unpleasant in my books.

Deep, dark and brown coloured body with a thinnish, single to perhaps two centimetre tall tan head that fades fairly quickly. Aroma of deep and pungent sugars with icing sugar, molasses and of course vanilla all here, with a lot of richness from the malt, but seemingly more from the alcohol and the vanilla. Full-bodied; Almost cloyingly sweet with a lot of vanilla and nuttiness here that shows a rich quality and a lot of depth with smooth, sweet flavours and a nuance of cake. Aftertaste is deep and robust with a lot of malts, more sugars and a smooth, very easy-drinking finish that has a lot of vanilla and hazlenut qualities that is robust and rich throughout. Overall, this was easily the best of the bunch, and while I didn't really want it to be, this one was nice across the board and while I'm curious if a few extra years in the bottle would make this even better, it was the only one I had and it was better with two different vintages of the 'normal' beer. I sampled this 65 cL, bomber sized bottle, purchased from Carmine Street Beers in New York (Greenwich Village), New York on 22-January-2017 for US$25,00 sampled as part of three separate bottles as a vertical and horizontal taste testing of the beer on 25-28 February-2022 at my house here in Washington, in order for me to get them down without being knocked out.
