4.3% Cask handpull at North Laines Brighton. Black beer no head. Some roast on aroma. Some roast. Juicy. Not great.

Cask at North Laine. It pours darkest brown with a quickly dissipating tan head. The nose is sweet, cocoa, toasty, earth, treacle and coffee. The taste is sweet, toasty, treacle, light spice, charred wood, ash, instant coffee and earth with a short, dry finish. Light-medium body and low carbonation. A bit sweet and sticky. Pretty one-dimensional. Meh.

Black with a thin cream head. Really comforting and velvety-smooth, aided in no small way by the rush of chocolate and cream up front. A pleasing smokiness fellows, but the beer’s appeal is limited somewhat by a hint of sour ashiness in the aftertaste. Nevertheless, it’s still a good’un.
