A beer for connoisseurs and aficionados. India Pale Ale is named after those famous ales that, beginning in the seventeenth century, were loaded on ships headed for India. Since the ships had to cross the equator and there was no refrigeration of any type on board, the Pale Ale destined for India had a higher alcohol content and was made with a generous measure of hops, enabling it to better withstand long voyages. In revisiting this beer style, Theresianer Master Brewers chose to emulate the magnificent and traditional intense hoppiness. When combined with long aging, the result is a surprising aroma with floral and citrus nuances, and a distinct bitterness that fades to leave the impression of a nicely balanced body.

750ml bottle from Vinmonopolet Bestillingsutvalget. Bubbly, low white head, fair lacing. Hazy dark golden coloured body. Smell of dough, fruits and mild spices. Mild and rather fresh fruity flavours, hints of wet hops mingled with caramel sweetness. More sweet than bitter to the finish. Standard, more or less, not a great version of the style (session at Finns, Tromsø 07.08.2014).

Bottle, 75cl. A hazy golden-orange beer topped by a white head of moderate size. Belgian-ish yeasty and fruity aroma with some resins and pale malts. White sugar, some dried fruits and cellar. Yeast hints. Some hints of flowers and apricots. It’s a bit sweetish on the palate, still dryish, with a pleasant carbonation level. Full body. Herbal bitterness, generic fruityness and some biscuity maltyness in the flavor. Cigar notes. Lasting sweet, herbal and bitter finish. Not impressed by this one, certainly not very IPA-ish. Quite a lot of fruity and yeast imparted flavors in this one, Belgian style IPA, but a bit low on bitterness perhaps. 140713

0.75l bottle. Quite a cloudy yellow orange one with a small near by bubbly off-white top. Smells softly earthy English bitter with a little bit of wet leafs and caramel. Not to bad actually. Light oily in the mouth and it has a nice comfortable carbonation level. Much the same in the taste, just add some strong yeasty tones all the way. Soft earthy, wet grass and leafs with a ripe fruity melon sweetness. Fair, drinkable but I honestly didn't need the whole 0.75l bottle. 26.11.2013

Bottle at home. The colour is amber and is slightly hazy with a medium and light beige head. Aroma of dried fruit, plums, wood and some pine, spices and caramel. Pretty malty. The flavour is more fruity with caramel and some berries and fruity hops. A little dry in the end. Slick and rich mouth feel, and has a medium bitterness. A decent ale but not quite an IPA. Is well balanced and a little british.
