Dark brown to black colored, medium- beige head. Aroma is of some caramel and roasted malt, medium floral and citrus grapefruit hoppy aroma. Taste is medium+ sweet chocolate, some caramel, roasted malt, tropical fruit, citrus and floral hops, moderate aroma, bit alcohol, medium+ bitterness, dryish finish. Medium bodied, lively carbonation, oily. I’d say overcarbonated... (bottle, Who Cares Festival, Bevog Brewery)

Bottle from Bottle Baron. Black body with a massive beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of burnt toast, blackcurrant, rubber and blueberry. Flavour of Coca-Cola, berries and liquorice. Medium body with a smooth texture. Very fizzy. Overly fizzy but a pretty decent Black IPA.

Bottle from Ales by Mail, drunk at home. Black with a petite and tight cream-coloured head. Salt liquorice, chocolate-covered cherries, plums, pine needles. Bittersweet taste with a more pronounced bitter finish. More pine and liquorice in the aftertaste. Thin to.medium body, soft carbonation. Excellent, excellent, excellent, at a wonderfully boozy ABV.

330ml bottle, 8.5 % abv, from Habemus Birra. Huge, bubbly, fawn-coloured head with fine duration and leaving clingy lacing on the glass. Deep black body added by a brownish glint. Mixed nose of roasted malts and sappy citrus, inviting. Roasted malty aroma of dark chocolate nicely blended with red oranges. Lingering malt-fruity bitterness to the ending. Full to medium bodied and a well blended version of the style (hotel room, Alicante 03.06.2016).

At LIBF. Very thick and dense, pale greyish beige head, blackish robe. Aroma of fresh garden weeds and dried nettles, yellow grapefruit peel, bitter chocolate, white pepper, roasted peanuts. Clean fruity taste, hints of elderberry and chestnut with a sourish edge, carbonation on the sharp side for the style, nutty and eventually roasted bittering maltiness with a weedy, spicy, drying hop bitter finish with some citrus peel notes retronasally. Typically one of those new European BIPAs and a very good one at that.

Bottle @ LIBF’16. Shared with the RB Belgian team. Fin brun, col beige.
