Opaque black - brown beer, tiny tan head. Palate is fairly light and smooth, with fine carbonation. Mild minerals. Smooth dark malt, just a trace of roast. A touch of dark chocolate. Tangy dark fruits. Light whisky and whisky spice. Finishes smooth and dry. A nice mellow BA stout.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at the brewery. Pours deep, brown-black with a strong, frothy beige head. Lightly charred, somewhat ashy roasted malts in the nose, a bit of cocoa, earth. Medium sweet flavor with lots of rich, dark chocolate, sturdy roasted malts, subtle dried dark fruits, ash, chocolate-covered cherries, ash, burnt wood, burnt marshmallow. Medium to full bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Moderate alcohol warmth in the finish, further dark chocolate, mild bittersweet baking cocoa, a bit of torched barrel, mellow earthy bitterness, burnt sugars. Great stuff overall. The nuance imparted from the barrel is subtle, not overdone. Nicely balanced. Quite drinkable.

Bottle picked up at the brewery drunk at home. Black beer with lasting tan head. Dark choc and coffee on aroma. Enormously tasty in mouth, not overly barrelly but some barrel on there to give it extra depth and flavour. It’s a good barrel aged stout. Yep decent, it hits the spot, good alcohol buzz from it. Good dark bitter choc too. Good intense, complex beer. Still I like the FES straight more.

Gusher.. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, licorice, chocolate and wood. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and light to medium bitter with a long chocolate and roasted finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Appearance: Almost black color with a beige head.
Aroma: Coffee, roasted malt, oak and chocolate.
Palate: Medium + body. Slightly sweet and a mild bitterness. Soft carbonation.
Taste: Coffee, chocolate, oak, roasted malt and mild fruity.
Overall impression: Lovely stout.

Bottle, at Haand Festival. An almost black one, at least really dark brown, topped by a finger-thick, dark beige head. The aroma has bonfire, roasted to burnt malts, some butterscotch and a hint of wood. There’s not much wood in the flavor, just a tiny touch, else it’s the same roasted and burnt, almost bonfire like found in the aroma. Some butterscotch and sweetness too. Full body, pleasant carbonation. Roasted-bitter finish. A bit too English in style I think, and to be honest I prefer the regular Stout FES, but it’s a nice beer anyway. 130525

Sample from bottle at Haand Beer Festival, Drammen. Black colour, moderate tan head. Oaky and roasty aroma, coffee, vanilla and chocolate. Fairly sweet flavour, oaky with notes of vanilla, roasty notes of coffee and dark chocolate.
