Aroma: Espresso, dark chocolate and vanilla.

Appearance: Black body with a thick beige head that holds well. Nice lacing.

Taste: Ash, coffee and burnt wood. Very bitter, but the finish is quite abrupt.

Opaque black - brown beer, decent pale tan head. Palate is smooth and slightly soft. Fine carbonation. Mellow coffee malt, trace of roast and creamy lactose. Malt turns a little tangy. Touch of orange hop in the creamy finish. Nice ’brown’ malt character to this beer.

330ml bottle. Clear dark brown colour with average, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, tan head. Roasty, minimally smokey dark malty aroma, hints of tobacco, tar, nougat. Taste is initially minimally sweet dark malty, with hints of chocolate and nougat, later dry, hints of tobacco, some bitter hop.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at the brewery. Pours clear, dark brown with a big, frothy tan head. Looks perfect. Earthy cocoa in the nose, some tobacco, charred malts. Medium sweet flavor, tons of creamy chocolate, balanced earthy bitterness, good roast, light coffee. Medium bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. The mouthfeel on this one is just outrageous - so, so velvety and luscious. Sweet chocolate to finish, light earthy bitterness, dry cocoa, charred malts, dirt, tobacco, soft coffee. The balance here is phenomenal. It’s rich and sweet but not even close to being cloying. The charred malts lend a touch of dryness that offset perfectly the dark malt sweetness. I could drink a lot of this beer.

Bottle at Partizan. It pours near black with a medium tan head. The nose is roasted malt, earth, toast, liquorice, spice, rye bread, pepper, toasted sesame and charred wood. The taste is roasted malt, toast, earth, spice, saltiness, burnt toast, cooking chocolate with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Flavoursome and well-balanced. Not massively different from the 7 grain version for me, but yet another quality brew from Partizan.

33cl bottle from Sourced Market in St Pancras. First beer in a couple of weeks so should be interesting. A near black beer with a solid light tan thick head sat on top of it. Aroma has plenty of chocolate and a dry malty aroma. Roasty slightly roasted nutty flavour with some more chocolate. Some dryness. A bit like praline flavour in the mouth and finish. Yes, a pretty solid beer. Not as good as the stout, but this is very tasty indeed. Again, I’m very impressed. Quality beer. Right I’m going to watch Sunday Night Baseball and sip and savour this one.
