13th June 2008.
Crisp dry lager with a strong brandyish malt and a faint trace of marmalade.
9th February 2008
Just for fun - a 1981 Prince Of Wales version. Lot of rubble at the botom of the bottle. Caramelised and sweeter than when fresh but utlimately still a duffer!

Brewed by Carlsberg Malawi but this description seems to fit it closely so I’ll assume it’s the same recipe. Maybe I got a skunky bottle but the smell of this thing was a cross between armpit sweat and smelly shoes. Totally unappealing. The colour isn’t so bad however, though it could use some more head than the sorry amount it showed me when I poured it in my glass. Taste is good, a little syrupy and malty, with a hint of hops. Tastes a lot like the other carlsberg brands, and if there’s a difference, it’s hard to detect. It’s a decent brew but not really "special", and there’s no way to tell why it’s so "special" aside from the crappy smell.

Canned. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is quite grainy, grassy and also a bit alcoholic with some slight glueish notes. Flavour is quite much the same. Still not the very harsh style malt liquor. More ML than ESL like.

Wow - It looks like my version is slightly different, although mine is most likely this beer and doesn’t match anything else. My 325 mL can has an alcohol of 8.6% and was imported into Hong Kong - not Europe. Crystal clear coloured body with a light orange tint and a thinnish off-white head. Aroma of corn, alcohol, lemons and yeast - not too pleasant, but not off putting. Medium-bodied; Ridiculously strong malty flavour with stupid alcohol and a bitter nuttiness and metallic flavour at the end. Aftertaste is nothing but metal, malt and alcohol - not pleasant at all. Overall, if I had no other beer and really wanted to get drunk, I’d drink this - otherwise I wouldn’t want it at all...give me just about any other option in Hong Kong and I’ll take it, including San Miguel or even PBR. I sampled this 325 mL can, purchased at 7-11 on Nathan Rd. in Kowloon, Hong Kong on 03-September-2008, purchased last year.

275ml bottle. Dark brown in colour with a slight, off-white head. Alcoholic syrup dominated by sweet malt and a burning alcohol finish. Not the worst tramps’ drink, but that’s hardly a recommendation.

(Can 50 cl) Courtesy of Bov. Pours a clear, deep golden with a dense, white head leaving some laces. Sweet aroma of malt and alcohol. Quite full-bodied, very sweet with lots of brewing syrup and some fruity notes. The bitterness is a bit crude. But for the style this is quite OK. 080707

Bottle Pours a crystal clear light yellow with a large dense soapy white head. Aroma is stale sweet corny and slightly of alcohol. Flavor is a wierd high octane sweet, almost syrupy high fructose corn sweetner. It’s definately got a kick but I would not have guessed 9% ABV. I can see how this wourd "do the trick"
