Can at blind tasting. Gollden beer with some fizz and cardboard aroma. Pale dull malt, must be a lager. Strongish syrupy. A bock perhaps? Some citrus. Dryish finish with orange zest. Oh well, at least I got the lager bit right.

[Canned, imported to Hong Kong by Carlsberg HK (8.6%)] Golden colour, average head. Aroma of cheap plum brandy and rotting vegetables. Extremely sweet and fruity. Saccharine blends with methanol and old compost heap. Harsh chemical finish. It sure takes dedication to drink a 33cl can of this crap. I’m afraid I lack that, so I offer most of it to the Hong Kong sewers. May they forgive me.

Can, Malaysian version, alc. 8.8%
Dark golden color, good creamy off-white head. Aroma is sweet alcoholic with grainy notes. Medium-bodied. Sweet malty, alcoholic as can be expected. Quite balanced and warming, solid European strong lager.

Second time around I tried this as a vintage product in the cellars of Carlsberg 6 years old - and what a differens. The look is worse, now it is muddy brown and has no head. The aroma is of peach and alcohol, but what really has changed is the flavor, now it is woody with notes of prunes and plums and with a lot of character. [first time around with a fresh can: A powerful malty sweet aroma. The color is light amber and it has a big bubbly head. The flavor is extremely malty sweet with the alcohol prickling the tongue. It ends on a slight bitterness - but not enough to balance the sweetness. For a barley wine it is OK, but it is not my style. 6/4/3/4/7]

This beer seems to be made with no other purpose than producing as much alcohol as possible, and still call it a lager. Stick to Elephant Beer instead - it's strong enough.

Can, Malaysia. Golden colour with a light sparkle. Slightly fruity, hints of grain. Lots of alcohol, grainy taste. Not altogether inoffensive but hardly a disappointment. The usual malt liquor goodness.
