This dark ale is between an ‘American Black Ale’ and ‘American Stout’ according to British Ale Style Guide. Designed with reduced burned roast astringency and low on dry roast bitterness finishing normally found in stouts, this Black Ale has been crafted with a balanced towards rich roasted malty flavours, coffee, chocolate, liquorice and molasses. Late, lingering with moderate bitterness to balance the initial sweetness.
A big body yet light and easy to drink. Ideally matched with slow cooked meat dishes like shanks, beef cheeks, stews and bakes, this ale is also a favourite with desserts.

Sampled from 0.5 l bottle at RBBSG 2016 in Evergem. Hazy, very dark brown with a beige head. Sweetish, roasty-malty aroma of coffee, dark chocolate and some licorice. Sweetish-malty, moderately roasty taste of dark chocolate, coffee and licorice, followed by a medium long, moderately roasty-bitter and quite dry finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice!

Thank you for sharing Beerhunter111! 500 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBSG V. BBF 10.2016. Black, little mocha head. Nose is herbal, low roast, light vegetable roast, some plant-like bitterness. Body is a bit fizzy & this influences the taste which is likewise fizzy with black licorice, candy, herbal, leaves, low roast. Taste is better than the smell, who isn’t particularly impressive especially given the though competition & expectations within this style.

500ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with late awakening, average to huge, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige to tan head. Sweet-ish, chocolately, dark malty aroma, hints of sweet liquorice, a touch of treacle, some plum. Taste is dry dark malty, subtle sweetness, sweetish and salted liquorice notes, some plum, a touch of coffee, underlying milk chocolate. Good.
