What happens if you brew a beer that’s right between an American IPA and Hells Lager? Indian Summer Lager, that’s what.

Indian Summer Lager is a 6.4% ABV unfiltered pale lager hopped with Columbus, Cascade, Chinook, Citra and Simcoe. We want the big, bold hops of an American IPA combined with the wonderful clean simplicity of a great lager. It’s had over a month in tank (mostly cold conditioning to give that clean depth), it’s been dry-hopped, it’s unfiltered and it’s tasting incredible.

It’s hazy blonde with a full, creamy foam. The aroma is all about the wonderful fresh fruitiness of American hops with loads of citrus and tropical fruit. It’s clean, vibrant, loaded with hop flavour and finishes with a bold, lingering bitterness.

On tap at The Well & Bucket Shoreditch. Hazy gold lasting white head. Somewhere between a strong golden lager and an IPA. I mean I love it. Citrus bursting hop with the drinkability of a lager. Stupidly expensive. £5.20 a pint. Good though

Keg at the brewery, 21/02/14. Hazed golden orange with a well appointed off white covering that retains well. Nose is grass laden, pale malt, toasted bread, light citrus, clean aromas. Taste comprises orange pith, good layer of hoppage, light grapefruit, toasted malt, straw, mandarin. Medium bodied with light spritzy carbonation, grassy tropical fruit laden close. Nice stuff, can imagine this being a great summer thirst quencher, fully deserves its place towards the top of the premium lager rankings and with only 15 rates !

Keg at IMBC 2013. It pours hazy gold with a thick white head. The nose is doughy, light spice, toast, touch of citrus and orange barley water. The taste is crisp, straw, grass, dough, spice and orange with a crisp, bitter finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Great lager action. Crisp, well-balanced and refreshing.

Tap at North Riding Brew Pub, Scarborough. I think this beer was fantastic. However, the utterly boring, self fixated, whiny dog owning couple who the Missus and me made the mistake of sitting near to, made it impossible for me to be certain. I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. They had a weird curry in Lockerbie once, apparently...

Keg at Lovibonds, 8th September 2013. Really hoppy lager, probably, Centennial hops? Really aromatic on the nose and taste, almost an IPA like lager, citrus and flowery, not too carbonated. Very decent

Keg at the Hare and Billet, Blackheath. Hazy yellow pour with a white head. Pear, vanilla and light spice aroma. Quite a spicy flavour with hints of fresh herbs and lemon sherbet. Long hop linger. Bitter finish. Does the job.
