We love making drinks with cider and perry maker Tom Oliver. By our count, this is our 9th collaboration, with a couple more never seeing the light of day and another in progress. Thirteenth Fire was made from an extra strong wort, drawn from a mash of barley and wheat malts, with added cane sugar. This recipe is similar to that used for a Belgian Golden Strong Ale. It was fermented spontaneously in first-use Irish Whiskey barrels for 7 months, with an equal proportion of traditional cider apple juice. The majority of the juice blend was made from Michelin, with small amounts of Sheep's Nose and Foxwhelp.

750ml bottle pours a clear gold, white head.  Nose is blue cheese and apple core, corn mushroom (wtf is that called).  Flavor has corn and apple and huge blue cheese, smoke, cheddar, umami.  Full... but it could be drier.  Good but just off great.  7 9 8 7 8

750ml bottle. At the February DCBeer share. Poured a clear golden color with a white head. Aroma was citrus, some whisky, apple. Corn, light smoke and some funky bits. Slight sweetness at the finish.

Bottle, 750 ml. Shared with Zec, JFK10000, MiroB and Miro and Max at my Grande. Hazy orange with small white head. Fruity, apples, apple skins, some barrel, bit funky, bit peaty.

Bottle from The Sally at Ham. Pours clear bright orange gold with dissipating white foam. Aroma: sour apple, apple pomace, lemon peel, oak, funk, peaty hints. Taste: light tartness, cidery, sweet apple, lemon, some tannins. Medium body with spritzy carbonation.

Corked and caged bottle (their first for a 750ml I think). Mills online. Mostly clear orange gold. Not too much of a head, but what there is stays the course. Nose has big Dabinett apple vibes. Sticking plaster. Sweet peat. Fermenting apple pomace. Bit of lemony sick. It’s going to be a love it or hate it beer this one. Taste is sweet and peaty with some boozy bitterness. Doesn’t drink too easy with fairly high foamy carbonation. Slightly rough tannic bitterness to finish. Not for me.

Bottle from the source, brought by the trusty DHL driver. Clear bright golden color, large white head that settles slowly. Aroma of overripe apple skins and lemon peel left in damp basements. Taste has earthy apple flesh up front, with lemon curd, vanilla, tannins, mild to moderate dust and funk, light white pepper. Delicious.
