Monks Brew 1127 is brewed with a traditional blend of malts to give a dark wonderfully malty flavour with great depth. A Belgian-style yeast is used, along with a low hopping rate to match brewing practices in the medieval period. Juniper and a secret blend of herbs and spices are added to give the beer a slight bitterness and a subtle complex flavour. ABV: 6.4%

Bottle. Appearance is brown, amber, no head whatsoever, cloudy. Aroma- malty, bready, yeast, hint of dark fruits, slight chocolate/cocoa notes. Taste- malt more than anything else, caramel hints, raisin, medium mouthfeel, a bit of sweetness with a vague hint of vanilla. Short finish. An ok ale.

Bottle at home in London - got it direct from the brewery. Pours perfectly clear copper with a moderate, bubbly white head. The aroma holds smoked meat, caramel, sugary fruits and bread. Medium to big sweet flavor with candied ham, ripe berries, fruit cake, general bread. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Sugary finish, more bread and fruity cake, candied ham, some brown sugar, hints of yeasty dough, ripe berries. Very sweet and a bit one-dimensional but nothing too wrong here. Could certainly do with a bit more carbonation.

Craft Clerkenwell. Martin T tasting. Almost clear amber beer, little off white head. Smooth palate, semi dry. Mild carbonation. Sweetish malt. Mild fruits. Whisper of bubblegum ester. Smooth finish. It’s fine but light on flavour for it’s style and abv.

33cl bottle sent to me by the brewery. Cheers guys. Clear darkish brown beer not much head. Esters, malt, some almost whiskyish aroma, some cereal, some honey syrup. It’s pretty good and I can’t think of too many UK breweries doing something this adventurous. Decent Belgian Ale.

06/07/2013 330ml botttle (thanks Theydon_Bois!). Ambrata intensa, limpidissima (filtrata), schiuma leggerissima, quasi assente e poco persistente. Al naso sentori di lieviti, zucchero di canna, erbaceo e spezie, modesta. In bocca è tranquilla, bevibile, senza infamia e senza lodi, caramello, frutta matura, amarognolo finale, manca di complessità. Corpo medio, carbonazione soft. Non bilanciatissima e modesta nel complesso. Deludente.
