Red Tail Ale - The Legend is our flagship brand. It is brewed in the traditional "old world" manner, using premium two-row malted barley, hops and our own special proprietary yeast strain. It is an amber ale with a rich complex refreshing flavor and a crisp dry finish. Red Tail Ale is "Bottle Conditioned." Like good wine, Red Tail Ale is a perfect complement to fine dining.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 6/13/12
Aroma: The nose is breads/grains, with some caramel, a little grass, and herbal notes
Appearance: Pours a clear caramel color with a clean foam of beige head, and coating, fading lace
Flavor: Tastes lightly sweet, mid-plus malty, grains/breads, balanced by the grassy and herbal hop bitterness
Palate: The body is light-medium, with average-to-lively carbonation, and it has a fairly dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought this one was quite solid. I wasn't expecting anything special, and I didn't get anything too special either, just a solid Amber Ale: drinkable and with a solid flavor. You could certainly do much worse for what this was trying to be.

Bottle. Sweet caramel and barley malt aroma. Hazy red orange with a small beige head. In keeping with the aroma, sweet barley malt flavor with a light lingering herbal bitterness. Light to medium body and carbonation.

May 2010: One of the four taps at Pay and Take, Flagstaff. Came in a pint glass, slight haze just visible in the amber tailed beer, on top sat a thin cream/beige coloured head. Not a lot of aroma, what there was gave off caramel and malted esters. The taste was more malt than hop, pleasant but nothing special. The beer wasn’t weak, but it was no weightlifter either, just so-so in almost all aspects. A little disappointed with this to be honest.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a shaker. Pours hazy amber with off-white head that dissapates quickly. Some lacing, medium body, low carbonation, and really nice caramel malt aroma. Taste is caramel malt and finishes light bitter hops. Better than I thought it would be, easy to drink, and pretty refreshing.

This ale poured a medium amber colour with a nice, frothy, minimal, off white head with little lacing. To the nose there are scents of citrus-pineapple, lemon and orange. Others like spruce and dough. First sip was quite malty but watery too. Firm hopp flavour with additiona flavours of light caramel and citrus. Finish is bitter with citrus hopps lingering.

Originally rated November 2005. Thanks to Buddybeer for this one. Poured a good medium creamy off-white head with a lightly unclear beige-amber colour. The nose was floral, strong and purfumed. Thicker mouthfeel, almost syrupy. Very nice mild bitterness with a slight caramel flavor in the finish. The bitter notes continued in the aftertaste. This ale was at least 2 years in Buddybeer’s basement fridge, and still tasted amazing. Great amber ale.

On tap at Blind Tiger, Manhattan NY on 25th July 2011. Hazy amber with thin offwhite foam ring and a little lacing. Pungent aroma; citric and cheesy in mouth with a metallic touch I found unwelcome. Citric, lightly lactic (milk/cheese) finish on a light mouthfeel.

Not a bad looking beer, otherwise rather mediocre. The nose is metallic, drowning out all but the smallest whisper of hops. The taste wasn’t bad but quite boring. There is some malt, a little bit of hops and none of it is strong or interesting. The mouthfeel is fairly watery with too little carbonation and a bitter aftertaste. The numbing metallic taste is starting to make an argument for me to further lower the score, so I’ll end it there.
