Tap at the Earl of Essex, 21/02/13. Dark mahogony brown with a goos sized tan head that retains well. Good lacing ensues. Nose is hops, spice, malt, light fart, pineapple, booze. Taste comprises sweet candied sugars, orange, caramel, light grapefruit, pineapple, berry fruits, spice. Full end of medium boded with light spritzyness in the carbonation - a little too much for my liking, sweet finish. Decent enough stuff.

Keg at the Old Brewery, Greenwich, London. Pours deep brown with a lasting, off-white head. Dried dark fruit nose, some prunes, plums, raisins and sugary bread. Light to medium sweet flavor with brown bread, light alcohol, more prune and plum, very faint toffee. Medium bodied with high, creamy carbonation. Moderate sweet finish with some sweet bread, faint minerals, plums, berries. For 8.5%, for a quad, this beer is quite devoid of character. It’s not bad, but it is a little boring.

(Keg@The Meantime Old Brewery, SE London) The Meantime American quad is a Fuzzy dark brown pour with lasting creamy tan head. Aroma and taste is very interesting, dark fruit and complex strong malt character in the aroma, and taste is again dark fruit notes with pine and citrus hop notes. Medium in body, and nice overall mouthfeel. The strong abv really is well masked, and is a very satisfying number this. Very good. (d15)

Keg at The Old Brewery, Greenwich. It pours cloudy deep brown with a medium beige head. The nose is plum, cherry, raisin, red grape, light jam, wood, grass, candy and pithy citrus. The taste is wood, leather, spice, dark fruit, cherry, raspberry, candy, pithy citrus and decent bitterness with a dry, spicy finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Alcohol is very well hidden. Good flavour and balance. Nice to see meantime brewing edgier beers. This one works well.
