Bottle split at Chris & Ruths pre GBBF Shin Dig, cheers for all the shares, 05/08/17. Light black with a decent tan covering. Nose is bitter roast, dark chocolate, black peppery spice, burnt toffee. Taste comprises bittersweet malts, stewed fruits, chocolate sprinkle, roasted tones, leather, liquorice, spice. Medium plus bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a rising boost. Ok impy ... a sippable affair but low end for the style and lacking depth for an 11% beast.

Bottle at C&R Pre-GBBF Tasting 2017. It pours hazy deep brown - black with a small beige head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, chocolate cake, quite sticky, cherry, stewed fruits, fruit compote and toasted sugars. The taste is slick, quite sugary, tangy fruits, fruit compote, toasted malt, ashy, charred wood, tar and a lick alcohol warmth. Medium+ body and fine carbonation. A decent enough beer, but pretty average for the style.

The great pre GBBF bottleshare at ChrisO’s. Opaque dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth but dry dark malts, quite some tang and bitterness. Little dark chocolate and dark fruits. Dry finish. A bit rough edged but fine.
