Gravicask, half-pint, shared with Finn at the International Brewing & Cider Festival, Manchester. Red-brownish body, clear, filmy layer, fragile lacing. Moderate malt-fruity aromas, mid-dry. Blended taste of caramel malts and lemony hops followed by bittersweet ending notes. A bit thin on the palate. Fair enough. (Manchester, 22.03.2024).

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Was surprised to find I hadn’t rated this before – certainly drunk it on many occasions. Anyway, it pours golden yellow with a sizeable white head and good lacing. A fairly powerful sweetish aroma with a mix of floral and traditional hop and hints of honey and grass. In the mouth it is sweet and juicy / syrupy with plrnty of honey to start with. After a while you notice the hops and some bitterness, plus grains and hints of spices. This is rather nice and very drinkable. Not sure about it being a “premium bitter” though – though I don’t know what else to suggest. Reminds me a lot of Falstaff Smiling Asssassin.

Handpull cask from Weavers of Malvern. Mid- to dark gold and clear with a small off-white head. Some honeyed notes in the aroma overlaid with an astringency. Taste is similar: an almost syrupy sweetness interrupted by astringent hoppy notes. It's mostly a sweet beer though, but it's a got a lovely balance. Bittering hops linger in the aftertaste. Full oily body with soft carbonation. Nice.
