The Isle of Man is a Celtic heart with Viking blood and the greatest of our Viking rulers from the 12th century, was Olaf. According to the Chronicle of Mann, Olaf reigned for 40 years. The chronicle states that he was a peaceful monarch, and that "all the kings of Ireland and Scotland were confederates in such a way that no one dared disturb the kingdom of the Isles during his lifetime". He was sure to appreciate a great ale, so here's to you, King Olaf...

Cask in Douglas: Smooth and Dark malty in the beginning. The brew continues dark roasted malty, but as well fresh and easy to drink. Quite dry, roasted, deep. The aftertaste is even viscous, dry, malty-roasted, intense. Great beer, especially for the low ABV.

Cask @ Urban Tap House, Cardiff. Incredibly dark brown with a perfect tight khaki head. Scent of mocha, raspberries and whipped cream. Taste is sweet and creamy but ultimately noncommittal. A decent beer, I’d have it again (and again...)

On cask at SIBA BeerX - Deep black, thin tan head. Nose is liquorice, coffee and burnt chocolate. Body is a bit thin, but the taste is well rounded enough, with a very clean finish.

Cask handpull at The Old Buttermarket Canterbury Nicholson pub. Black beer with ruby edges lasting dark beige head. Funny to get this beer so far south. Ok slightly ashy dark malt beer. Some roast. Ok. Bit thin. What a modern dark mild has become.

A think to medium bodied ale, black with no head. Has a pleasant mild texture with a hint of roasted malts.
