The second beer we ever made. A single hop Chinook, but we added Amber malt to give a roasty character to the beer which we felt really complimented the Chinook hops. Some people prefer to keep the malt body simple so the drinker can discern the influence the hop is having on the flavour but we felt there were enough single hop beers out there doing that already.

Pigs Ear. Clear amber beer, little off white head. Light dry palate, mild carbonation. Trace of sulphur on the nose, not too serious. Bitter floral start. Then rich marmalade hops - but somehow a little thin. Finishes semi with a medium bitter aftertaste.

Cask at Craft Beer Co, London on 31st October 2012. Hazy copper with lasting off-white head and lace. Rich herby aroma and plenty of grassy and leafy hop in-mouth.. Fruity citrus present at front-of-mouth. This lasts into a rich but delicately balanced finish of gass and grapefruit. Smooth yet engaging mouthfeel and medium body.

Cask handpull at Craft. Deep clear old gold colour thin off white head. A bit if meaty farty aroma. Better in mouth. Some hop and bitterness on finish. Not the best showcase of chinook. 3.0/5. Re-rate at Flower Pot Maidstone. Better beer. More hoppy. Still a caramel based malty beer with some decent hop especially on finish. Quite bitter too.
