Phantasmagoria is an IPA that is low in malt flavors, but high in hops. We brew this beer as a nod to the big hoppy beers of the west coast. We use loads of citrusy and piney hops at the end of the boil and in the fermenter to make this beer a hop experience.

Nose kinda misses the mark, but otherwise a very good DIPA. Pine and slight citrus on the aroma, not pronounced enough to make much of an impact. Gorgeous pour, however, coming out a hazed orange-gold with a boisterous white head and tons of lacing. Starts with a moderate caramel-orange sweetness rounded out by mango and lemondrops from the hops. Mild bubblegum notes lead to a piney, herbal finish, spicy and dry, resinous with a hint of black pepper and boozy warmth. Texture’s...okay, moderately overcarbonated but thick. Thisclose to being a great Imperial IPA, but highly drinkable as is.

Bottle sample at a tasting at troubles’ place. Thanks Stas. Hazy yellow. Somewhat stale fruity hops, sweetish, bitter finish, a bit of alcohol.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; hazy light orange pour with a bubbly white head, aroma has massive pine, grapefruit and mango, taste has sweet orange, pineapple, peppery spice action, pine, fizzy bitterness, first Prairie pale, they should stick to stouts.

05.07.2017, 12 oz bottle @ home:
Nice fizzy-creamy mediumlasting head, hazy. Aroma is slightly dry concentrated grassy, weeds, leafs, moss, bark, hay, fruit stones, pine needles, harsh hops, cardboard, flowers, booze, paper, sawdust. Taste is dry concentrated grassy, weeds, hay, leafs, moss, bark, minerals, fruit stones, booze, cardboard, harsh hops, sap, pine needles, saltwater, paper. Longlasting harsh bitterness, dry boozy mouthfeel. Not my cup of tea.

Bottle from ABV. Pours a hazy orange hue with a large white head, actually crept up a bit out of the bottle. A big tropical fruity orange nose. Light biscuit, big orange marmalade, lemons, some bitterness, very smooth. Lots of sweetness, round melon element.

Prairie’s DIPA, bottle from Biergenot. Egg-white, moussy head lacing in ’dots’, medium thick and stable, over a peach blonde beer with orangey tinge, lightly hazy at first and more misty with sediment. Expressive, very citrusy and delicate aroma of freshly squeezed orange juice, ripe mandarins, biscuit, lime zest, rambutan, ripe cantaloupe, lychee, tropical orchids, lightly toasted bread, guava. Vivid fruitiness in the onset, lots and lots of sweet tangerine ’citrusness’ as well as mango, lychee and passionfruit notes, soft carbo, slick and oily but ’full’ mouthfeel, biscuity malt sweetness accentuating the orangey sweet citrus character, developing into a very aromatic New World hop finish with retronasal tangerine, mango, guava, lychee, tropical flowers and just a vague pine accent, adequately but not harshly bittering in the mouth, followed by a hint of warming alcohol. Very citrusy, very aromatic and very well-balanced, this is a delicious example of the style. Prairie rarely disappoints.
