The Stillwater Sensory Series is a collaboration between Stillwater Artisanal and singular musical artists. In this first collaboration, Stillwater works with Lower Dens to make an ale based on an interpretation of their song, "In the End is the Beginning." On the bottle itself, a QR code will link to an exclusive Lower Dens performance of the song. Ultimately, this is a true artistic collaboration that aims to create a full sensory experience - sound, sight, smell, touch, and taste. www.stillwatersensory.com

Bottle. A lightly unclear, golden beer with a dense, two-finger white head leaving lacings. The aroma is lighlty spiced, with white sugar, fruityness and some grassy and faintly piney hops. Full-bodied, soft and quite dry on the palate, even though there’s some sweetness. Pleasant bitterness in the flavor, both initially and in the end. Pine cones, grass and white sugar. A pleasant beer, but I think it’s a tad too sweet. Drinks very easy. 130928

Bottle at Pre-Zwanze tasting, thanks to Matteo. It pours hazy golden orange with a small white head. The nose is fresh hay, dough, orange, earth, spice and apricot yoghurt. The taste is earth, straw, hay, dough, mild orange, apricot, peach and nectarine. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Smooth, fruit and well-balanced. Decent stuff.

Bottle from Appalachian Vintner. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with evident carbonation and a large frothy off-white head. Looks nice. Aroma of caramel, bread, strong floral notes and mild herbal hops. The taste is dry pale malts, citrus, spice, hibiscus and a hoppy finish. Medium bodied, good balance. Very nice.

Slightly hazy golden coloured body with a single centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of coriander seed, lemon zest, grass, hay, a touch of hops and a lot of yeast - this smells like a saison. Medium-bodied; Strong yeast flavour with a lot of grass and herbal notes, some lighter hop flavours and a bit of fresh fruit tucked in at the end. Aftertaste shows a good effervescence with a lot of white pepper notes, some grass and hay, a little coriander seed and a bit more sugars. Overall, a very nice saison showing a good complexity and some solid grassy/herbal notes throughout. I sampled this 37,5cL split bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (Logan Circle/P Street), DC on 15-February-2013 for US$7.99 sampled at home in Washington on 02-July-2013.

Basically like a lager. Pours clear with little lacing or head. Taste has malt as well. Average carbonation with some cloying sense. Finishes a little sour. Not sure what this is supposed to be exactly, taste wasn’t entirely deprived however. Tap at Blue Monk.
