A black, black stout, packed with chocolate malt and Pioneer hops, and a hint of vanilla.

Pioneer Stout is another early brew which has been retained. It's very dark, thanks to 10% Chocolate malt and a bit of Black. The Pioneer refers to the main hop used. A bit of vanilla is added to round off the bitterness.

[Cask at the Allied Arms, Reading.] A glossy black pour with a tight cream head; roasted malt aroma; rich roasted malt taste with a trace of chocolate. A solid stout.

26/8/2021. Cask at the 2021 East Anglian Beer Festival, Bury St Edmunds. Pours clear black with a small creamy beige head. Lovely looking beer. Aroma of ash, roasted malt, liquorice, vanilla, dark chocolate, dark fruit, coffee. Medium sweetness, light to moderate roasted bitterness. Moderate body, oily watery texture, average carbonation. Dry, roasted finish. Good but would have benefitted from a bit more body.

Half-pint, cask at Greyfriar. Shared with Finn. Faint lacing, smell fawn-coloured head, jet black body. Roasted creamy malts on the nose. Malt-driven flavours containing impacts of dark chocolate, earth, and bread. Smooth roasted malty bitterness to the finish. Medium bodied. Likable stout version. (Reading 20.10.2019).

Delt med Rune. Svart. Mokkafarget skumring langs glasset. Kaffearoma. Myk munnfølelse. Smaken røstet malt - men kaffen slipper ikke taket. Tørr avslutning. Kaffe.

Cask at PoW, Farnborough. Low key chocolate aroma. Dark and glossy but chestnut in the light. Off-white head just clings to the rim. Light - medium bitter. Chocolate and coffee. Medium bodied. Skimmed milk consistency. Flat carbonation. Long finish. Poor stout. Drinkable but really lack body.

Bottle shared at CBC Islington - London. Thanks to Andy. A mild gusher, this one! Pours dark brown with a moderate, creamy beige cap. Burnt toast on the nose, some earth, burnt leaves. Light sweet flavor with astringent bitterness, earth, burnt plastic, carpet. Light bodied with high carbonation; way overcarbonated. Bitter finish with dry bitter baking cocoa, burnt plastic, moss, earth, burnt coffee grounds. Not awesome.

Bottle from Andy. It pours near block with a small beige head. The nose is roasted malt, earth, coffee grinds, sweet chocolate, miso, soy sauce, light smoke and burnt plastic. The taste is roasted malt, toast, coffee grinds, ash, astringency, earth, rubberand burnt plastic with a dry finish. Medium body and high carbonation. Really not loving the burnt plastic and over-carbonation....
