The story: The golden Bohemian skies turned black. The cool floral breeze spiked into a whirl of burning bitter fruits. Everything changed. A beautiful dance between darkness and light. Brutal and elegant. Thunder and shooting stars. It was Friday the 13th. Black Friday.
The taste: Black Friday is a pilsner unlike any you’ve had before. Stained black in the brewing process and made using super-sized hops of Saaz descent (Premiant from Czech Republic and Motueka from New Zealand; Saaz is the traditional pilsner hop), it’s got a cocoa-like foam, it’s nutty and chocolatey to begin and then finishes with an elegant and classic clean pilsner finish – it plays tricks on your tongue, starting dark and finishing light. The hops then give lemon spiked with herbs and a tropical fruit background. It’s lager but it’s different.
Malt: Pilsner and Roast Barley
Hops: Premiant and Motueka

Keg at the brewery. It pours hazy deep brown with a thick tan head. The nose is earthy, rich roasts, toasted nuts, umami, dark chocolate and Rocky Road. The taste is smooth, bitter, earthy roast, coffee grounds, peppercorn, umami, salted liquorice, cocoa and some acidity with a dry, roast finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Good balance of flavours. A solid schwarz. Perhaps a bit dry, but enjoyable nonetheless.

On tap at The Brewery. Very dark brown beer. Lasting beige head. Hoppy dark lager. Hops jump out of the glass at you. Then some chocolate malt then more hops. Fresh tasty and lovely. Excellent.

Keg at Black Heart, Camden. Very dark brown, almost opaque. A little bit of brownish head and lacing. Light aroma of grain, cola, liquorice, grape juice... it’s pleasant but hard to get my head around. Sweet candied taste, turning only slightly more bitter in the finish. Clean light body. This is a hard style to pull off, but I’ve enjoyed this.

Keg at the brewery. Aroma is nutty, dark malt extract, sticky, mineral, hint of dried fruits. Opaque dark murky brown coloured pour with a lasting frothy cream coloured head. Flavour is composed of thin roast malts, really malty, some dark choc, dried fruits, very dry in the finish. Very archetypal Schwartz beer. Clean interesting and goes down very easy. Little mineral on the tongue. Nice dry finish begs another sio. Palate is medium light with a crisp dry finish.really tasty Schwartz beer.

Keg at the brewery taproom. Pours clear, deep brown with a lasting, foamy beige head. The aroma holds nicely toasted biscuits and cereal, hints of roast and cocoa. Light-medium sweet flavor with moderate roast, some scorched earth bitterness, mild cocoa, dried fruits. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes a little dry and roasty with further earthy bitterness, burnt toast and biscuits, bittersweet chocolate. Solid.
