Väldigt kluven till den här ölen. Ska vara en svart IPA men tycker det påminner om en välhumlad stout. Väldigt mycket chokladsmak och en tydlig beska. Jag blir förvirrad.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Almost black with a large tan head. Aroma and taste of roastad malt, some coffee and dark chocolate. Some very light notes of grape. The finish was bitter. Black IPA? No way!

Well its not a bad porter, lol. But they had better give a serious reconsideration of the hop rate on this beer before calling it a Black IPA. I don’t rate to style anyway so its not big deal, but just to a make a point: this is laughable as a Black IPA. Poured a dark brown, modest head. Initial nose was a blast of citric hops but these volatile compounds disappeared quickly and the second sniff was all chocolate milk with a touch of caramel. Flavor is very similar, with tons of chocolate, a hint of caramel sweetness, a hint of ashy roasty, and a quick bang of citric hop bitterness at the end. Strong carbonation also gives this a significant carbonic bite that detracts from the overall mouthfeel and experience of this beer.

This IPA poured a deep black colour with a big, light brown, creamy head. To the nose there are scents of cocoa, clight coffee, vanilla, caramel and light grass. First sip was very roasty on the palate with additional flavours of toast and coffee along with cocoa. Finish was deep roasted coffee flavour and the palate was burnt. Delicious!

Pour is a black with a large tan head. Aroma is dark roaster malts and a little bit of the hop. Flavor is the same. Big roasted malt and chocolate with a little hop bringing things up in the end. Decent beer with a few nice things going on.

Bottle. Pours deep dark clear brown. Medium tan head with good staying power and lots of lacing. Smel is very stout-like, with chocolate/coffee notes dominating, and no real hops in the nose. Taste is coffee and weak chocolate, with a nuttiness from the malt, a little watery perhaps. Weakly bitter finish is about the first time that the hops make an appearance.

12oz bottle. Deep, opaque brown-black. Mellow minty chocolate aroma. Above par for a Magic Hat product for sure, they do a pretty respectable job with this one. Chewy roasty chocolate covered hop flavor. Clean, no off flavors at all. Pretty well balanced. Right on.

A deep dark IPA with a thick lacing mocha head. In aroma, light chocolate and floral hops. In mouth, a nice coffee and chocolate, grassy hops, nutty notes, nice. On tap at brewery, April 7 2012.

Pours dark brown color with big tan head. Roasted malt and chocolate aroma. Similar flavors. IPA? I’m not getting much hops in the flavor or aroma. Seems like more of a porter, and not a very good one. Medium body other average carbonation. Another disappointing Magic Hat beer.

Yet another blah Magic Hat beer. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a large foamy tan head that lingered and left incredible lacing. The aroma was very bitter with a coffee presence. The flavor was dry, bitter and roasty with strong coffee and faint floral hops. Medium length finish and body. Eh.
