This style is the highest gravity offering in the bitters family, which originating as the draft range of English pale ales. Strong bitters work well as a choice for the winter warmer. Richly flavoured with bold malt and hop bitterness, medium bodied with a fruity estery character. Idea for those chilling winter evenings standing at the log fire of your local.

Cask @ White Hart, Todmorden. Clear golden with a creamy head. Has a grittier tasting tropical fruitiness with a strength to it that leads to caramels evident in both its aroma and aftertaste.

Cask at the Last Post, Southend-on-Sea, on 20th December 2017. Copper with shallow greyish foam an scant lacing. A distinctly sweet caramel malt aroma. Malty in-mouth with toffee and berry fruits. A lactic transient at the end of the liquid drain, followed by a sweet finish with just a hint of citrus. Light body and mouthfeel.

Cask. Reddish amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is caramel, some wood, resin, mild floral and nutty notes. Flavour is very similar, but also has a nice bitterness to it as well as some fruits and mild sappy notes. Not all too "Wintery" as such...

On cask at the Standing Order. Appearance - cloudy amber with a decent head. Nose - fruit cake, in particular a plum note. Taste - more of the same, light biscuit finish. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - best Caledonian beer I’ve had in a long time.
