Peconic County Reserve Ale is the result of a marriage of grape and grain. Local Chardonnay grapes from Osprey’s Dominion Vineyards combine with barley malt, wheat and hops to create this unique ale. Barrel aging and refermentation in the bottle add an additional depth of character to this one-of-a-kind brew.

2002 bottle thanks to FX. Pours a cloudy dark orange with small white head that lasts. The aroma is faint grape, earth malt, wood. Slick body, similar flavors to nose, light tartness, a bit muted. 2011 bottle thanks to FX. Pours a cloudy orange gold with small white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is grape must and wood. Much more bright than than the 02’. Held up very well.

‘11-750ml bottle-thanks to hbmason for trading–pours a foamy tight white head and hazy yellow/gold color. Aroma is yeast, light malt/grain-bready, grape/apple skin. Taste is tart/sour/vinegar-apple/lemon, light malt. OK effervescence.

20111 Bottle shared by Jcwattsrugger. Pours cloudy gold. White head. Nose of yeast, grape, apple skin and bread. Taste is grape, lemon tartness, yeast and apple skin. Incredibly well balanced. Almost like a berliner weisse/sour/saison hybrid. Well done.

Shared by Slander @ BCTC.. Well I was happy to try it but not so happy that it wasn’t anything good anymore. This went in the getting old and corky category. This happens with the SH beers eventually, they can do very well for 4 or so years even getting some nice sour notes of the yeast but eventually oxidation will set in. I did get general musky malts and even just the slightest zing of what may be the end of the grapes’ effect. It had a clear orange color with a sticky lacing. Its old now, what can you do. Big thanks to Steve again.

Cloudy orange. Full creamy head. Orangey caramel malt aroma, coriander hanging around the sides, but not an actual ingredient? Grapes present but not in a vinous fashion in the nose, but definitely vinous flavor. Surprisingly light palate.

Slightly hazy darker golden colour with a dense larger-bubbled head. Musty aroma of sweet grapes, mushrooms and farmhouse 'freshness'. Light-bodied; Very subtle grapeyness with some interesting faint earthy flavours. Aftertaste actually very subtle and only showing a bit of the grapeyness. Overall, alright, but to be honest-I was expecting more! I bought this 75 cL bottle at Beers of the World in Rochester, New York and brought it to Knoxville, Tennessee for Haddon90 (Phil) and myself to sample on 28-September-2003.

Rich golden colour; yellowish good head, gone fast. Grapey (but with a raisin touch) nose, some very slight cookie hint. Taste is perfect marriage between the grain and the grape (malt and real fruit, 'stead of esters). Sweet, slight acidity, no bitterness. Only the mouthfeel betrays the wooden lagering. Tannines are there, serious adstringency in the right way. WOW - this is my Southampton favourite so far. This is a classic to be cherished.

2002 Bottle consumed in 2003. Pours a pale gold/light yellow. Slight clouding. Poured a lot of off-white head. Smells like champagne with wheat? Interesting, has a sweeter smell as well. Starts off muted, a little bit of grape acidity comes out and here come the grapes, but quickly it is backed by an even if somewhat bland wheat flavor. Texture is wonderful, not too watery like champagne, but not coarse or peppery like a chardonnay. More of a chewy barley texture. Not really tasting too much barley malt, though the chardonnay dosent dominate. Has some doughy flavor. As it breathes and the more I get used to it, the better I am liking it. The finish is quite peculiar, slightly sour with an almost lemon zest appeal, followed by a honey sweet aftertaste that is pleasant. Is medium bodied, but I suspect more barley malt would come out were this warmer (drank this one like I was going to drink champagne). A great effort and a great beer, definitely want to get more.

The appearance is of a lightly hazy amber. Grapey, yeasty aroma. Slightly pithy, astringent bitterness. Some decent fruity flavours. Like the Stille Nacht Reserva, I had a tough time putting my finger on this beer. I just know I liked it…
