Go gold or go home. Made from dazzling Maris Otter malt, our exceptional golden ale won’t disappoint. Part bitter, part sweet, 100% refreshing. Fearlessly brewed, this is a well-balanced, full-bodied golden beer with a subtle floral and herby aroma. A true Bristol sunset in a bottle, worth its weight in gold.

500ml bottle from Sainsburys, Bracknell. Amber with a loose white head; fruity aroma with apricot; earthy bitter taste with more apricot fruitiness and some citrus; and a salty earthy finish. Very drinkable.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Golden colour with firm, white head. Fruity nose with apricots, orange peel and fresh hints of Fuggles hops. Fruity taste with apricots and floral, slightly earthy hops in the finish. Some grainy malt underneath. Turns dry towards the finish. Rather light body. Tasty and refreshing.

Bottle from Tesco. A fairly standard bottled bitter. A pleasant gold colour with a decent white head that left plenty of lacing. Aroma of grassy hops with some caramel. The flavour had some doughy malt and citrus hops before a bitter finish. Good.

Bottle. Golden body, with an off-white head. Citrusy and fruity initial aroma, with some malt, caramel and breadcrusts coming after a while. There is a good dash of grapefruit. The flavor is fruity and malty, with a nice touch of caramel and breadcrusts. Medium body. Dry, fruity and bitter finish with pinecones and grapefruit. Quite good, English bitter. After finishing it, I found out it was 11 (!) months past BB-date, but that sure hadn’t harmed it. (070711)

Bottle from Sainsbury’s, Banbury 27-04-06. Dark Golden in colour, smooth and malty with good hoppy flavours present, a very enjoable tipple. Apparently brewed to commerorate the 25th Anniversary of both the Butcombe Brewery and the Bristol Balloon Festival, strange that they then call it gold, you’d have thought they could have brewed something with silver connections?

Bottle (from Bierzwerg): Deep golden, clear, stable fluff - almost off-white - head; pale malt, lemony hops and a subtle fruitiness in the nose; light to moderate bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied, soft; slightly lingering fruity and sweetish-malty finish with a nice balancing bitterness in the aftertaste. Nice archetypal english stuff.......
