Bottle at the beer bistro. Jet black, huge Tan head.aroma is sweet, fruity dark charred malts, plums and figs, coffee, and sticky sweet vanilla soaked bourbon barrel. Mouth feel is thin for such a big stoit, carb is not surprisingly soft. Finish is sweet, low bitterness, sticky syrupy bourbon notes loads of vanilla and overly ripe sweet fruit. A tad on the cloying side, good, not great.

Plaisant.

750 ml share thanks to Adamchandler. Nose of oak, chocolate and dirty socks. Not sure how old the bottle is but it has a sourness that doesn’t belong. Oak, funky red wine and sour.

Bottle, at Håndverksølfestivalen. A dark brown to black beer, unclear, with a dense, finger-thick beige head. Quite funky aroma, leather and barnyard, with booze, oak and a good dash of roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee and a touch of heavy caramel sauce, close to treacle. Even a faint piney touch. It's full-bodied, a bit heavy on the carbonation, lightly warming and quite dry on the palate, with a flavor profile driven by dark malts, but with good company of funky, woody barrel treatment. Roasted malts, some coffee and dark chocolate, leather, barnyard, dark caramel, oak, booze and a light piney hoppyness. Lasting finish, roasted and almost burnt malts doing most of the labor. A fine one indeed, but the co2 level is too high to give a good drinking experience. 190608

Trou du Diable's luxury imperial stout from quite a luxurious, chique bottle, bought at Geers and shared with my girlfriend. Inches thick, hugely foamy, rocky, cobweb-lacing, yellowish off-beige head over black beer with hazy, wine red edges and ruby red glow deep within (under bright light). Very pleasant nose of a milk chocolate bar with hazelnuts, pear syrup, 'Paschka Choco' and even a very distinctive, pungent but interesting and appetizing note of gorgonzola, marzipan, some old wood, dead tree leaves. Sweetish onset with thinly estery notes of fig and brambleberry, sourish edges, sharp carbonation for style (cfr. the towering head), bit stinging but calming down eventually; light beef stock-like umami accompanies a very full, smooth, thick hazelnutty and Ersatz chocolate-ish malt sweetness, toffeeish and only mildly toasted bitter, but peppery hops and dryish woody effects bring dryness in the end, accentuated by the bourbon-coloured alcohol effect - which remains warming without becoming overly harsh. Overcarbonated for sure, but otherwise very pleasant, rich and distinctive imperial stout with an own personality. Beautiful bottle as well, but obviously that has no relation to my rating here...
