As Spitting Feathers Empire IPA, Gluten Free, at Newcastle Beer and Cider Festival 2023. Amber gold colour, bubbly white foam head and aroma of biscuity malt, citrusy hop. Taste is malt, biscuit, tangy, with citric bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying tangy bitter finish. Quite drinkable

Cask at Brewery Tap, Chester. – as Spitting Feathers Empire IPA Pours a golden amber with a small off-white head and good lacing. Malts and hops vie for attention in the aroma. In the mouth it starts off sweet and then bitter floral hops take over, with some autumn fruits and a creamy texture. Malts come back again in the finish. This is a decent old-school IPA.

Cask, served in a mug at Crowd Of Favours. Warm golden body, fair lacing, filmy white head. Caramel fruity flavours. Moderate taste profile of peaches, berry fruits and mid-sweet malts. Malt-fruity bitter endnotes. Satisfying. (Leeds 06.07.2017).

Cask at the Bell, Waltham St Lawrence. Pale amber with a loose cream head; grainy aroma; dry, almost perry-like taste, with some sour grains; and a tart bitter finish. Rather odd - reminding me of Marston’s Old Empire. If this is what IPA’s really used to taste like, then I’m really glad that they’ve been replaced by the modern American style alternative.

Dark golden colour. Sweet aroma, some brown sugar. Quite thick and rich. It’s not unpleasant but is poorly balanced with too much sweet maltiness and not enough hop bitterness.

Cask-conditioned at the Cheshire Beeriodical, Seven Stars, Bristol October 2012. Amber with a slight, off-white head. Berry fruits, caramel and boiled sweets, with a big, bitter finish. Not for me.
