Can 0,44ltr: Opaque black likes its big brother or big sister, only weaker in taste but there are some equations. Like this one, but the original is still better.

Weich malziger, süßlich röstiger Beginn. Cremig, wässrig herb, sehr süffig, langer Nachhall. Gute Alternative zum normalen Guinness. 12/9/8/9//9

Keg pint at Beaumont House, Dublin. Black colour, the standard Guinness nitro head. Aroma and flavour nearly indiscernible from the regular Guinness. Much better than I feared.

Appearance: Can with widget. Dark brown with creamy medium tan head.
Aroma: Malt, toasted.
Taste: Malt, slightly roasted, creamy. Definitely a Guinness, but a bit watered down.
Bought: Tesco (UK), 440 ml can, £?.??

Looks like Guinness!
Aroma - Light dark roast
Taste of soft roast, soft sweet dark malts, hint of dark chocolate, that slight Guinness sour note. I expected almost no flavour, but more than expected. Almost like a low abv mild.
Palate - Soft carb, thinnish body, smooth texture. Finish is bit less bitter than standard Guinness
Overall - Not a huge difference to ordinary Guinness. As a low abv beer it’s not bad at all.

From tap. Pours hazy yellow with a small white head. Toasted malty and slight breadish. Toasted and dark malty. Bitter, roasted and dark and malty finish.

Draught in The Hairy Lemon, hadn’t been in there in years. Black with a red hue to the base. Tastes a bit like canned Guinness or what would be considered a good stout in an Irish bar on the continent. Not a ringing endorsement I know. A little watery, nice creamy texture but lacks the solidness of the original.

I can understand the theory behind making something like this, I’m just not sure it has a very good practical application. Pours just like the real thing, aroma is weaker than the original which doesn’t have the strongest smell to begin with. Taste is watery and thin, bland. Finish is thin. Overall this is maybe the best of the low abv stouts out there right now, but still not going to cut the mustard.

More like low-strength if truth be told. What flavour Guinness has is sorely missing in this alternative to the main brew.

Tap at PJ’s, Carlingford, 26/01/13. Light black with a good sized light tan/off white head that retains very well. Excellent lacing ensues thereafter. Nose is very muted - not a lot to note! Malt, grain, barley, light metallic notes. Taste comprises light roast malt, mineral tones, barley, grain. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dry finish. A far blander version of the not exceptionally flavoursome original!
