Handpull cask at the Lady of Mann, Liverpool. Light brown and clear with a healthy off-white head. Slightly woody and malty aroma: light toasty notes with some very mild sulphur. Clean bittersweet flavour with crystal malt on the tongue. A very simple basic bitter.

In my professional drunken opinion these O'kells beers are perfect- solid staying head, good colour. The aroma is just a soft biscuit, however. Flavour is a very mellow malt with soft mentions of brown sugar. Medium finish. A very casual bitter, subtle and just okay in that respect.

Cask pint at The Shepherd’s Tavern, Mayfair. Copper colour, off-white head. Moderate malty aroma, some fruit. Slightly sweet, fruity (currants) and malty flavour. Decent enough, but the hops are too moderate.

Clear amber beer, creamy white head. Light sour fruit aroma. Fruity taste and a touch sour again. Malt and some light bitter hop. A very traditional bitter but perfectly serviceable.

Cask at The Bridge. Clear deep golden color, thick cream colored head with good retention. Aroma of light black pepper, but the young lady sitting next to me was wearing a lot of perfume, so who knows? Taste is light straw and white pepper. Watery body.

Cask @ Thomas Rigby’s, Liverpool. Golden-orange with a small head. Has a malty nose with light malts in its taste and a medium bitterness. Gentle enough in its texture.
