This superb, Belgian-style ale has been 20 months in production, from first mash to bottling. Unfiltered and unfined, it pours a slightly hazy golden colour, with a delicate lacy head - constantly replenished by a gentle effervescence. Aromatic malts from across Europe, combined with a Belgian yeast strain, give a full-bodied, easy drinking beer. The initial aromas are of breadfruit and banana - merely hinting at the symphony of ripe fruit flavours which will send your tastebuds into overdrive - while the velvety mouthfeel seduces your tongue, before a warming, winey afterglow suffuses your entire mouth and throat. Brewed to celebrate both the 500th brew at the Fat Cat Brewery and 20 years of the Fat Cat pub, this beer is a fitting tribute to the success of both enterprises.

Bottle, picked up at the brewery, donks ago. Properly cellared since. Opened with a decent pop. Poured a lively, clear dark amber. Finest off white head. So far, so good. Nose has toffee and pan stuck caramel. Sweaty knackers. Cardboard. Some sherry shizzle. All of that. Taste is super sweet, with an earthy, grassy bitterness. Medium body. Robust carbonation, somehow. Toffee and cardboard to finish. You get the idea.

Swing-top bottle no. 545 kindly shared by Grumbo at Fat Cat in Norwich. Covering white head to a near-clear dark golden body. Minimal lacing. Aroma of marmalade fruits. Dried fruits and grainy malts to the flavour character providing a jam-like taste. Nice bittersweet ending. Well bodied. Pleasant last drink at this session at the Fat Cat (18.02.2017).

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig, 2012, London. Pours hazy orange with a fine, white cream head. Tangy citrus nose. Medium sweet flavor with tangy berries, wood, light funk, birch, dry lemon and other citrus. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Tangy finish with some woody dryness and tangerine. OK beer. Good effort for a UK brewery.
