Working closely with Wim van der Spek, head brewer at Little Valley Brewery in Hebden bridge, the monks of Ampleforth have once again begun to sell ‘La Biere Anglaise’. Following extensive research, Wim has paired modern brewing techniques with the fragments of information available to produce Ampleforth Abbey Dubbel – a beer as rich in history as it is in flavour.

Foamy tan head stayed on a well carbonated mahogany coloured body. Liquorice, malt & blackcurrant aroma. Medium bodied, smooth, creamy & clean. Liquorice, herbal, sarsaparilla & blackcurrant tastes.

330ml bottle bought from the Offie, Leicester and drunk at home. Ruby brown, mostly clear with an uneven beige/khaki head. Spicy yeast, cinnamon toast, some sarsaparilla, bourbon biscuit. Sweet taste with a warming spicy booziness mid-sip to the short finish. Despite the heavy carbonation, it fizzles out a little bit, and is too basic to compete wih the best Abbey dubbels. However it's an enjoyable drink from a new brewery, and tastes good enough to recommend.

Opaque amber brown colour with a ruby hue, good frothy beige head, slowly receding, light lacing. Aroma roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, light dark fruit. Smooth velvetty taste, light heavy to medium sweet and light bitter, roasted mals, toffee, milk chocolate, candy sugar. Malty sweetbitter finish, chocolate, spicy notes, medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Quite good dubbel, smooth and tasty.

330ml bottle, mini-tasting with Mike. Pours hazed deep brown, pale tan head. Aroma is grainy, sweet dubbel yeast. Taste presents a balanced, grainy sweet dubbel with lingering dried dark fruits, moderately rich toasted malts, medium bodied. Not bad.

Huge thanks to Erzengel for sharing! Bottle looks very simple. Beer in the glass dark brown, small head. Roasty malty aroma. Starts roasty-malty, modest sweetish, also some hints of caramel. Some cookies. Finish well balanced, warming malty, still light sweetish. Interesting.

Many thanks to Simon for this bottle. Fresh grainy fruity beer. Lots of fresh fruity earthy maltiness. Moderate bitter, round and malty with chocolate caramelly hints. Nice.
