Mini cask at Craig’s. Thin black, curry spice nose, some sweet chocolate, sweet and thin, dry roast chocolate, huge curry spices. Very interesting.

Mini-cask at Craig’s, with a warning that is had been kicking about for a while, so might not taste great. In fact, it tasted just fine. There was a slight oxidised note, but otherwise it was everything I expected it to be. Dark brown pour, spicy note, big spicy taste - like drinking sweet garam masala. then a chilli heat. Not bad at all.

ChrisOs Marvellous Pre GBBF Mega Tasting. Opaque dark brown beer. Few bubbles for a head. Light dry palate. Smooth herbs and berries start off - slightly medicinal. Very spicy back end - ginger, black pepper and chilli. Semi dry finish. Interesting beer but too spicy.

Growler at Chriso’s 2012 Pre-GBBF Shindig, London. Pours black with a fine, bubbly head. Hugely spicy nose, some dark fruits, winter spices. Medium sweet flavor, lots of ginger, faint roast. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Spicy finish with some dark malts, lots more ginger, dark bread. The beer is in extremely poor condition but there are still some interesting elements in there.

Growler 100cl. @ chriso s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2012.Clear dark brown black colour with a average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white to light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, spicy, ginger, cinnamon, juniper. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light moderate bitter with a long duration, licorice, spicy, ginger - peppery, burning pepper - chili. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. IMO a good spiced beer and speical since i normal do not like spiced beers - also in good condition taken into acount that it was a handbottled growler ;-) [20120804]

Handbottled@chriso pre-gbbf shindig 2012. Black colour, small brown head. Aroma is fruity, junipery with mild roasted and peppery notes. Flavour is spicy, ginger, juniper, some toasted wooden notes along with a nice chili burn in the finish. I guess the spices is what makes people either hate or love it, as this was still in good condition in my opinion.

Hand Bottle at Chriso’s 2012 Pre-GBBF tasting. It pours near black with no head. The nose is spicy, very much like a korma, ginger, clove, coriander etc. The taste is watery, spicy, korma, cheap curry powder, roasted malt and some charcoal, with a dry, spicy finish. Light body and pretty much flat. Doesn’t do anything for me....

Gravity @ Bow Bar 200712
First batch
Dark brown black, no head, flat
Aroma - Deep curry spices, herbal, some chilli, no malt, no hops, the curry smell is quite nice, no beer aroma at all though.
Taste - Err...no beer again, no malts, no hops, imaginary dark malts. Big time hot chilli spices, loads of curry spices. This stuff is crazy - how do I rate it? OK, I go for flavour and forget it’s a beer. It’s so bloody hot though.
Palate - no carb, medium body, full of curry spices. Finish HOT HOT HOT HOT...lingers for 10 mins...burn burn burn OK it’s a 4/5 for the chilli burn and u get quite a buzz.
Overall - They must bottle it and sell it as a novelty drink. Only small sips of this or throw it into a stew for added spice. I could only drink 1/4 of a pint of this but I was in a rush.
OK - rating as an actual beer, well there’s nothing in the aroma taste or palate that resembles a beer - I’d understand if it was scored almost nothing at all e.g 3/2/3/1/6 1.5 - but I’ll just assess as a drink, forget styles and beer. They should bottle this and sell it as a novelty beer. Perhaps whack the abv up to 11% and put in 330ml bottles. You’ll never notice the alcohol.

CASK (40pint pin, not mini cask like Rich said) at home ... deep darkest black ... thin tan lacing ... deep rich spices ... cinamon ... cardamon ... basically a curry powder ... roast malt nose ... dark malts ... light chilli burn front ... dark roast ... little bitter charcoal roast ... 3.9 Cask at home again ... deep black ... small bubble head ... soft roast ... huge spice ... just loads of curry powder ... soft roast ... lightest blackcurrant fruit ... heavy malts ... quite a lot of spice ... light burn ... little tooo much charcoal roast ... all told i quite like this ... but it needs a little more condition (its a old cask) ... could do with being a little sweeter ... and have a little more body ... cask at the bow ... deep black ... thin tan head ... heavy roast ... toffee malt ...light spice nose ... big burn up front ... loads od spice ... cinimon and chilli ... dark chocolate roast ...but wow ... way more spice burn ... seems a bit more chilli than curry this time .... toffe mals but just wow. it kick 3.9 Deep black .... thin tan head ... deep spiced malts .... bitter spiced malts ...3.9 BATCH 2 From bottle at home ... on first opening all i got was acetone on the nose and in the flavour along with a little curry so wasnt going to update my rating but if i had it would have scored about 1.9 ... Obviously like this i didnt finish the bottle at the tasting ... so when i came to tidy up, i though id have just 1 more mouthfull... wow the acetone had vanished ... so not sure what gave it that and why it vanished as it breated ... So here a rating from a flat open bottle (I recon give it 30 mins to breath) that had been open for over a 24hours ... Deep black ... barest tan lacing ... soft dark fruity nose ...soft curry spice ... little lifeless as its been open to long ... soft oily body ... soft dark malts ... lots of blackcurrant ... heavy curry spice but only a light burn ... This is really nice ... at first i thought i preferred the original batch but i think this is much nicer ONCE the acetone has gone. All told i think id score this 8 3 9 2 16 but with a little more life in it it would possibly deserve a 4.1-4.2
