A copper amber ale with a thick frothy lacing mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with vinous notes, treacle, light butterscotch, alcohol warmth, very nice. In mouth, sweet fruity malt with light butterscotch notes, light licorice, alcohol warmth, very nice.

Draft pour. Pours copper with a quick vanishing head. Juice like. Caramel and malt flavors. Drinks super easy. Very unique beer too. Very good stuff.

Batch #2, enjoyed to celebrate my landing at least a long-term temp job, which could end up going for a while. Bought Aug. 2012. yes, looks quite blond as barley wines go. Pours a big foamy head too, straight into a small snifter. Smell is, though, kind of volatile and rubbery. I hope that is driven away as the beer gets a moment to breathe, …Okay, after a while, the volatiles have gone away. Still smells a little solventy with alcohol. Still, it has a strong taste that is expected with the style, but I think using lighter malts means you’re giving up more malt character than any other part of the beer can make up for. Especially the toasted oak, which brings in a lot of tannins, more than I’ve run across in an oak-aged beer before. Still, strong alcohol, thick malts do mean I got what I paid for, after all, at $6 a bomber, that’s Lagunitas territory. And it may get better if allowed to lay for a good long time.

22 ounce bottle into snifter; batch 1, bottled in Fall 2011. Pours fairly crystal clear orange amber color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, toast, toffee, biscuit, tangerine, mango, orange zest, pineapple, floral, light pine, clove, oak, and floral/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and hop notes; with good strength. Taste of caramel, toast, toffee, vanilla, biscuit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, orange zest, floral, light pine, clove, oak, and floral/toasted earthiness. Light pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, vanilla, biscuit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, orange zest, oak, clove, and floral/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and complexity of citrus/tropical hops notes with malts; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a fairly creamy and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent barelywine! All around great balance and complexity of hop and malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Floral piney citrus hops aroma, very fresh and clean smelling for a barley wine. Clear copper with a small ivory head. Woody burnt caramel malt, fruity and spicy citrus hops, and alcohol flavor. Medium body, low carbonation. Very nice.

Split 500ml bottle. Poured a moderately dark clear orange color without much of a head to speak of. Aroma was some light hops, pine notes, and some woody character. Flavor was some oak notes, pine and hop characters. Alcohol is pretty well masked in this one.
